Awesome commercial Sticke. I’ve wanted to try this for years now. Finally on the east coast in DC, and I grabbed a sixer of this from the Foggy Bottom Whole Foods. Malty, fruity smelling - good balance of hops. I enjoy this quite a bit.
From Aug 2006
Poured from 12oz bottle a clear reddish-gold with a small head of foam that dissipated quickly leaving just a fine layer.
The smell is pretty fruity to me with some citrus and there's some malt sweetness there as well.
The taste is of biscuit malt up front, not sweet but certainly yummy , and as I enjoy *that*, it is quickly complimented by a nice hoppy bitterness...wow, and it finishes on the very dry side.
There be Big flavours to be found here yet they work so well together that my bottom line for this Alt is that it's a real smooth drinker and one that I'd recommend without reservations.
Thanks to Nutbrown for including this Alt in our trade! chinchill (5321) - South Carolina, USA - SEP 21, 2017
12 oz bottle from VA in a Laughing Skull glass.
Lovely copper body with great clarity but only a short head despite a aggressive pour. The head, nonetheless, has excellent retention.
Mild aroma with obvious alcohol.
Surprisingly full and complex flavor has hints of toffee, vanilla, honey, and brown sugar. Somme roasted nuts appear in the moderately bitter aftertaste.
Smooth and full bodied feel where the high ABV is partly hidden. flaviapicao (1) - - SEP 7, 2017 does not count

I poured it from the bottle into a pint glass. It pours amber with almost no head. The aroma is heavy on caramel with some bread and dark fruit. The taste is caramel, bread, some dark fruit, and earthy. It’s a little thin, but the alcohol content is well hidden. This is okay. malrubius (3023) - Springfield, Vermont, USA - MAY 25, 2017
Bottle from practically anywhere around here. Amber mostly clear with lasting head and a little lace. Woody earthy toasty caramel brown sugar aroma. Medium-heavy toasted caramelized brown sugar sweetness some mild fruitiness and woody earthy medium-light bitter and pretty dry finish. Medium body, oily. It dries up really nice for what it is, and has a nicely toasted sweetness. Very good.

Wow, can’t recall the last time I had a beer from Vermont, also had not previously heard of a "double altbier;" regardless, this is a delicious super-malty brew, pours a rich slightly cloudy amber-brown color, cool caramel and brown sugar malt aroma. Medium-full bodied with a lot of texture, almost chewy like caramel toffee. Flavor is multiple layers of sweet malty and red fruit notes, reminiscent of a doppelbock. Finish is very slightly boozy, with overall a delicious and sweet savory profile. Thoroughly enjoyable! ehaak26 (712) - - MAR 25, 2017
Bottle from Beers of the World into a pint glass. Little to no carbonation. Aroma is all malt. meccahh69lol (359) - New Haven, Connecticut, USA - FEB 26, 2017
While this isn’t quite a barn burner, this is a very solid offering from Long Trail and the best beer of theirs that I have tried so far. It pours a nice rosy brown with a thick tan head. The taste is of a malty mouthfeel with chocolatey notes and a bit of a yakky baltic aftertaste. It goes down relatively easy, but sneaks up on you. Never really had an altbier consciously before, but this is basically a mid point between an amber ale and brown ale with a bit more alcoholic kick. Worth a shot if you’re in the mood and like dark, malty brews. Otherwise, it is not a tragedy to miss out on this one. drdisque (882) - Illinois, USA - JAN 11, 2017
On tap at Valhalla. Pours light clear copper. Hoppy and light bodied for an Alt. However, to manage 7.2% out of a lager is pretty impressive and this beer doesn’t tip its hand at all, it tastes really smooth with no off flavors and a clean finish. Good, if unexciting beer. tekstr1der (501) - New Hampshire, USA - OCT 23, 2016
UPDATED: NOV 2, 2016 Pours almost-clear copper with nearly zero head, just an off-white right. Nice color though. Aroma is slightly malty and just a hint of earthy hop. Flavor is a whole different bag... Delicious waves of malty goodness bread/cracker mixed with a nice dose of caramel. Very slight earthy bitter catches up at the finish, leaving the palate very clean and ready for a another sip. Again, delicious.
