Real India Pale Ale (IPA), as it was first brewed in the days of the British Empire, was not the carefully filtered brew that we call IPA beer today. The first IPAs were unfiltered and featured extra hops and higher strength as a preservative for the long trip from England to the colony of India. Our Traditional IPA ale is naturally carbonated, dry-hopped & unfiltered like the old days.

Pours a clearish gold, thin white head. Aroma is wheat, hay, grass hop, grapefruit peel, pine, piss. Flavor is light sweet > mild fruity bitter, rather dry for an IPA. Med mouthfeel & carbonation.

Part of their mixed pack on my trip to Maine. Pours a slight hazy golden colour with a frothy warm cap, good retention and foamy lace. Hoppy nose with notes of grapefruit and pine. Fruity taste with the citrus and mild bitterness creating some light dryness in the finish. A nice middle of the range IPA with a micro-feel.

On tap at The White Horse (oldest tavern in America, Est. 1673). The beer was actually labeled as their house beer 1673. Clear amber pour with a white head. Floral hop bouquet. Floral and mineral hop notes with a sturdy malt backbone. Average body and mouthfeel. Good balance. A solid session IPA.

Transfer from BA review on 7-21-12 - Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance Pours a golden color with a big white head. The head faded slowly over time to leave a moderate level of lacing on the side of the glass. Smell The aroma is heaviest of grapefruit citrus and pine hop and mixed with a biscuit smelling base. Taste The taste begins smooth and malty. This bready and caramel sweet flavor is soon meet with pine hop flavors that start out on the very subtle side and grow in strength as the taste moves on. As the pine grows stronger, other hop flavors of a light citrus and floral nature also some to the tongue. Overall the transitions are all very smooth and in the end leave a pleasant hop flavor on the tongue. Mouthfeel The body of the beer is on the thicker and creamier side for its strength, with a carbonation level that is on the slightly lower side. The creamier body helps the nice flavor transitions, as well as allows the hop flavors to really soak in. Overall This is a nice, more session like IPA with very smooth characteristics overall. Pretty good!!!

12 ounce bottle. Hazy golden color topped by a thick rocky white head. Fruity toasted malt aroma with a hint of citrus. Bitter toasted malt flavor upfront. Slightly peppery and citrusy hops in mid taste. Finish is dry with more citrus hops. Decent as American IPAs go.

12 fl oz bottle in Hotel. Orange golden in the glass, fine creamy head. Fresh fruity on the nose. Starts orange fruity with a pleasant fruit herb. Maybe a little too sweet, not really bitter. Light caramell hints in the background. Easy to drink and enjoyable.

It had a hazy golden color with a modest, slightly off white colored head. The head has very good retention as it hangs on well and leaves lots of cool white lace rings on the glass. Smell: The aroma has a slightly floral bouquet with solid citrus and pine notes in the nose. Taste/Mouth feel: There is a solid hop presence up front and throughout. It is not over the top or in your face bitter hops but it brings solid fruity citrus and piney to the overall character. The hops are tempered by a nice biscuity malt and dry earthy yeast that give it some balance and nice complexity. The finish is slow with dry yeast and hop flavors lingering a bit but not overstaying there welcome. The body has a good solid medium feel and hardy texture with average carbonation.
