Description: Long Trail is excited to launch Long Trail Pumpkin Ale, a slightly sweet seasonal treat artfully brewed with pumpkins, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves. The perfect drink for a fall day, this exceptionally balanced beer has an aroma very reminiscent of pumpkin pie.

Style History: During colonial times malted barley would be in short supply so the colonial brewers would use a wide assortment of whatever organic ingredient was handy. Pumpkin was in abundance so it was one of the most common of the random ingredients.

Food Pairing: Roasted chicken, lamb, turkey and stews

Tastes and looks like nearly every other pumpkin ale out there. That doesn’t make it bad, but it certainly doesn’t make it good. Sweet, pumpkin pie spices, soft carbonation. So tired of this style.

12oz bottle. Hazy darker orange color. Good thin off-white head, leaving nice ridges of lace. Medium body. Lighter, kind of crisp carbonation. Lighter to medium body. Smooth, kind of crisp, lighter to moderate carbonation. Mild dry finish. Nice bit of actual pumpkin flavor here, some mild spiciness but no roughness from that, nice balance. Ginger seems to add a nice snap to it. Good moderate hop bitterness, lighter sweet. Crisp, refreshing, easy-drinking balanced pumpkin beer. Nice to enjoy with my lunch sandwich.

Bottle from Harvest Market, Bedford NH. Aroma is caramel, bready malt backbone with pumpkin, nutmeg, cinnamon, mild clove. Appearance is hazy orange-brown with nice sparkle and minimal off-white head, with minimal lacing. Taste is like aroma, though not as strong. Palate is medium bodied with creamy texture, soft carbonation and mild bitter finish. Overall, pretty standard for the type, but isn’t overly sweet.

Copper pour with off-white head. Nose is pumpkin puree, cardamom. Tasted medium in palate heft, with caramel, pumpkin, spice.

Bottle form Harvest Market Lightly hazy light amber, lots of brown sugary pie spices. Not horrible for a pumpkin ale

Quick3Beers (1513) - East Falmouth, Massachusetts, USA - JAN 24, 2015
Pours a hazy dark copper from the bottle. Smells of nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, in that order. Flavor is of pumpkin, with some sweetness along with the spices. Okay pumpkin ale.

Pour is nice. Short tan head. Orange amber color. Some lacing is present. The aroma is that creamy pumpkin pie aroma. Cinnamon and nutmeg is present but subdued. As the beer warms these spices come to the front. The taste is mildly bitter but not much going on. The brew finishes cleanly.

dliberto (217) - Hampstead, Maryland, USA - NOV 28, 2014
Drank from the bottle. Aroma consists of nutmeg, cinnamon, corn, and pumpkin. Taste is squash puree, nutmeg, and raisins. Medium bodied beer with moderate carbonation. I truly did not like this beer.
