Tap. Pours opaque black with a medium brown head and good lacing. Aroma is very darkly roasted malt, coffee, mud, tobacco, light bile or vomit(!). Flavor is the same (minus the bile), lightly sweet and quite burnt with notes of smoke and cardboard. Finish is very lightly bitter. Light to medium body. Malts seem over-roasted and there are several off-notes in the beer, but somehow it kind of all works together. bu11zeye (13140) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - MAY 13, 2011
(Draught) Pours a black body with a medium tan head. Aroma of lactose, roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate. Flavor of roasted malt, oatmeal, and chocolate with a dry, moderately bitter finish. mike67 (1245) - , New Jersey, USA - AUG 15, 2010
Samples at Los Gatos Brewery. Black hue with off white head. Aroma of dark fruit, chocolate, coffee and licorice. Medium, smooth body. Coffee, dark fruit and molasses fill the mouth. I was not impressed by this brew. SamGamgee (2452) - down the whirlpool, California, USA - AUG 10, 2010
handpump cask pour at the brewpub. No sparkler. Black color with a thick tan head. Light diacetyl and some creamy roasted malt in the aroma. Medium malty sweet with a touch of fruitiness and mild, yet ashy and lightly harsh roast bitterness in the finish. The low carbonation from the cask makes this pretty drinkable all things considered. A bit rough overall, but drinkable.
