Another specialty tap item served up at OBriens in San Diego. Backlogged rating. Deep brown color with a small ring of beige head. Bourbon and oak is slapped all over this one. I like! Aroma is sweet brown sugar and vanilla creme brulee. Malty flavor with loads of vanilla and rye malt. Some tones of coconut noticeable. Light acidity. Slight smokiness and spice throughout. Damn good.
Tap. Finger of a khaki head on a murky mahogany body. Bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, and slight cherry in the aroma. Lots of bourbon and vanilla notes, slight chocolate, sourish fruit finish. Medium to thicker body with soft carbonation. dogfish120love (1364) - Westfield, Massachusetts, USA - AUG 28, 2012
Danish Pour. Pours dark brown. Heavy notes of oak and vanilla accompanied by chocolate and raisin. The body is slightly thin and the carbonation is somewhat lacking. Travlr (26405) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - AUG 24, 2012
Draft. Looks murky dark brown, but it’s dark and murky in the bar also. Beige head, solid lacing. Aroma of vanilla, whiskey, espresso. Taste is sweet and boozy coffee and wood. A good finishing beer. Matts_Property (837) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 14, 2012
On tap at Brouwer’s Big Wood. Pours solid black with virtually no head. Aroma of roasted malts, light coffee, caramel, bourbon and vanilla. Flavour the same, lightly boozy. More complex on the flavour than on the nose. Well rounded, full bodied. Gorgeous. j12601 (13297) - Poughkeepsie, New York, USA - FEB 7, 2012
Pouring at the Saturday afternoon session of EBF. Pours a deep brown cola color with a medium sized dense tan head. Cocoa, dusty chocolate, a touch of acid on the nose. Medium bodied, warm cocoa, chocolate, roast and toast. Very light funk. Big and warm, but a bit too big overall.

On tap at Brouwer’s for Big Wood, pours essentially black with virtually no head - tiny tan ring. Aroma of vanilla, bourbon, roasted malt and caramel. Flavour brings out shitloads of bourbon and vanilla - dominates the flavours, subduing whatever else there is. Syrupy, oily palate that lingers on and on. Most delicious slow sipper. jethrodium (366) - Berkeley, California, USA - NOV 22, 2011
On tap at Beer Revolution. Pours a cola brown with a small white head that leaves no lacing on the glass. The aroma is vanilla, bourbon, alcohol, caramel, some breadiness, raisin, and some more alcohol. The alcohol became very prominent as this one warmed up. The taste is vanilla, bourbon, raisin, some light roasted notes, and a hint of cherry. The finish is extremely boozy and astringent. Light bodied for a beer of its size. Low carbonation. I just didn’t find this beer to be that enjoyable. It was very boozy and the flavors didn’t come together that well. marcus (10865) - Sacramento, California, USA - NOV 18, 2011
On tap at Beer Revolution. Pours black with a rich tan head and a chocolate aroma. There is a delicious chocolate and treacle flavor with a long dry finish. This is a very dark version of strong ale. joeneugs (6372) - Livermore, California, USA - NOV 18, 2011
On draft at Beer Revolution. It pours very dark brown with a tan head. The aroma is heavy bourbon and chocolate fudge with some hints of wood. The flavor is very hot with more bourbon, raisins and a woody/ashy finish. Kind of reminded me of Angels Share only hotter and not as rich on the palate. badlizard (5533) - Berkeley, California, USA - NOV 13, 2011
Black with no head. Caramel oak and bourbon aroma and taste with coffee notes and candy.
