COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Late in November of 2011, Mike Rodriguez our head brewer asked about creating a Coffee and Cacoa Nib version of Serpent’s Stout for the San Diego Strong Ale Festival. The beer was a hit with our fans. When we wrote up the syllabus for the Ultimate Box Set, we knew a version of this beer would be included. We waited until the very end of the release schedule to put this beer in a bottle so that the coffee and cacoa nibs really come through. Four Bourbon barrels were selected for their rich and dense chocolate flavors. One week before packaging, we added 17 lbs of Ryan Brothers Coffee and 4 lbs of TCHO Cacao Nibs were added to the coffee and cacao to steep before packaging.

Black with medium brown head. Aroma is raisins, dark chocolate, creamy coffee, slight peppers, slight bourbon flavours. Taste is creamy bitter chocolate. Low carbonation, raisins and dry chocolate in the finish. A bit boozy and spicy on the tongue. Medium drinkable. Quite heavy and spicy. Could be more balanced.

(375ml bottle from Kihoskh, no date but maybe early 2016) Pours pitch black with a small medium brown head that leaves no lace. Aroma of dark chocolate, toffee, toasty cacao, coconut, bourbon, nuttiness, moderate roast, cookie dough, light alcohol. Flavour is quite sweet with lots of dark caramel, marzipan, lots of bourbon, candied oranges, golden raisins, vanilla, light cacao, some earthy coffee, toasted wood, warming alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium, a bit slick, quite softly carbonated. This bottle has some age on it and the adjuncts might be a bit retiring as a result, but this isn't quite as complex as I hoped for - a bit sweet, barrel heavy and boozy. Very good, intense flavours, but not world-beating.

W aromacie mega bourbon, kawa, konkretna paloność, likier czekoaladowy, delikatny sos sojowy. Dobre!

tapefuzz (813) - Massachusetts, USA - SEP 26, 2017
375mL bottle. Pours inky black with a negligible tan head. Aroma is chocolate, bourbon, some coffee, and some caramel. Taste is sweet chocolate, roast, caramel, bourbon, some vanilla, a hint of oak, and a buried nuttiness. Very light dark fruit occasionally peaks through towards the end of some sips. Lightly bitter dark chocolate finish with some lingering wood. Very boozy. Medium-full body. Soft but lightly prickly carbonation. Smooth, oily mouthfeel. The aftertaste is disappointing - it'd be stronger with a cleaner, less lastingly oaky finish.

75cl Bottle @ Cervezalandia, Vall d'Uixo, Spain Black colour with a thin tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, toffee, nuts, bourbon, oak. Taste is roasted malt, milk chocolate, caramel, vanilla, coffee, nuts, bourbon, oak. Full body, soft carbonation.

zimbo (970) - SCOTLAND - SEP 11, 2017
Outrageously potent with enough substance to strangle a demon, this boozy beast is a pile driver of taste and intensity. Sort of headless and ever so slightly with some risidual fizz, this is still a big treat.

langeveld12 (587) - NETHERLANDS - AUG 19, 2017
UPDATED: AUG 19, 2017 Up to now Lost Abbey has never disappointed me. Again they manage to get the balance just right. I can taste all kinds of things (coffee, chocolate, bourbon, oak, vanilla, roasted malts, sweet fruits) but nothing is too strong or weak. Complex, balanced, subtle. It's all there and it's all right. Fantastic!
