COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Late in November of 2011, Mike Rodriguez our head brewer asked about creating a Coffee and Cacoa Nib version of Serpent’s Stout for the San Diego Strong Ale Festival. The beer was a hit with our fans. When we wrote up the syllabus for the Ultimate Box Set, we knew a version of this beer would be included. We waited until the very end of the release schedule to put this beer in a bottle so that the coffee and cacoa nibs really come through. Four Bourbon barrels were selected for their rich and dense chocolate flavors. One week before packaging, we added 17 lbs of Ryan Brothers Coffee and 4 lbs of TCHO Cacao Nibs were added to the coffee and cacao to steep before packaging.

Enjoyed on tap at FOBAB. Served in my FOBAB taster. A: Pours a dark black color with a very dark tan head forming on the pour. It recedes slowly to a thick ring that leaves some splotchy lace. S: Huge notes of fresh coffee bean, chocolate, roasted malts and espresso. There is a faint barrel smell in the background, but this is heavily dominated by the coffee and chocolate. T: The taste follows the nose with a more roasted malt presence and touch more barrel. Vanilla espresso, freshly ground coffee beans, milk chocolate and roasted malts. Some light oak with just a kiss of bourbon. Booze is hidden extremely well. M: Medium low carbonation with a heavy mouthfeel. Decadent and creamy. O: While this beer was lacking the in your face bourbon barrel we’ve all come to love I think this limited barrel actually worked with this beer. It made the coffee and cocoa flavors the stars of the show. I’d love to try this again. Serving type: on-tap

Sampled form the bottle Appearance: black opaque Smell: pleasant, chocolate and pralines. Later there appears notes of alcohol Taste: sweet, chocolate, pralines and, unfortunately, quite a lot of alcohol. One feels rather strong warming in one’s throat. In my opinion, the strong taste of alcohol spoils this beer.

BlazerT (1138) - Sosnowiec, POLAND - MAR 26, 2017
Bottle. Sensoric. Pitch black with small, light brown head. Moderate malty atoma - partly roasted chocolate, malty, cocoa, coffee. Taste is moderately to light heavy sweet with moderate, balanced bitterness. Medium body, watery to oily texture, average to lively carbonation, finish is mild, cocoa, chocolate. In overall yet another beer from Lost Abbey, which is pretty too lively as for a stout. But nice combination and balance between ingredients. Nice not too boozy bourbon notes. ABV is enough hidden. Polish: Hype ego piwa bo to LA...

Piana średnia, szybko opada do chmurki. Barwa prawie czarna, nieprzejrzysta. W aromacie piękne nuty wanilii, prażonych wiórków kokosowych, marcepanu, pralin, trufli, kakao, kawy, melasy, rodzynek, porto... Piękny, intensywny i złożony zapach. Niskie wysycenie i przyjemne alkoholowe rozgrzewanie.
Bardzo udany, złożony i wybitnie deserowy RIS, z fajnie zaznaczoną beczką po bourbonie a przede wszystkim solidnym ciałem.
