On tap at Brouwer’s, pours a murky dark mahogany / brown with a small beige head. Aroma is earthy and funky, with light tartness. Flavour is quite sweet and sour, with candied caramel, alcohol and light tartness. Fairly hot, sweet, vinegary, and earthy. Nice balance, but this is too sweet and vinegary for me. A rare miss from Lost Abbey here.

Funky tart nose with some brown sugar, vanilla, tart cherries. Dark brown almost black pour with a decent tan head and some red hues underneath. Tart sourness, dark malts roasat, cherries, brown sugar. More tartness in the finish as well as some vanilla from the oak. Finishes super dry with a good deal of roast. Rather delicious. Notes say I liked this shit.

draft @ Brouwer’s Big Wood - new blend for 2008; flat and dark brown with glowing red along the edges; brown sugar, dates, cherries and mild funk; not as spicy as the previous version and much less sour; texture is chewy and rich, almost meaty and plenty dry from the brett; pretty tasty; we were there early and later glasses from the keg had more pronounced lactic sourness and some off flavors
