Our first release of the embodiment of good versus evil in a barrel-aged blend. Part bourbon barreled The Serpents Stout, and part brandy barreled The Angels Share, this is our most anticipated release of the summer.

Placeholder rate only. On tap at urge this time, but only had one drink. Rich malty and roastiness with tart hints behind. Smooth and sharp at the same time. Will rerate from bottle.

Multiple bottles and on tap. Using a 2011 bottle for this review. Pour is pitch black. Tiny brown headm not much lacing going on. Nose is filled with chocolate, caramel, toffee, vanilla, roasted malt, brandy booze. Taste has a bite to it, Cocoa, marshmallow, apple, fudge, dark fruits, and a slightly rusty peat. Another great big beer from Tom Arthur.

Cola color with minimal head poured in Chimay glass. Perfect carbonation for this beer wonderful fruity aroma, notes of cherry fig date you name it with bourbon and brandy prominent, a bit boozy and could use a little more malt backbone, great but almost drinks like a manhattan ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From notes. Pours a menesing dark black. An aggressive pour kicks up less than a half inch of head that hisses like the damned. Great aroma, big sweet barleywine like notes, rich toffee, malty sweetness, caramel, some oakieness, defiantly some dark fruit, raisins, and a little cherry like tartness. Flavor is a slightly muted reflection of the nose. Nice toffee, some bourbon flavors are coming out nicely, more so than in the nose. The sweetness is a little more toned down, I get a bit of coffee bitterness complimented by some dark fruit sweetness. Defiantly a sultry booze finish. The body is sitting at a pretty solid medium feel, defiantly more on the silky side than sticky. Carbonation sits perfectly on the light side, giving the brew a little life yet not distracting from the many nuances.

(trade w/adneilsen) 2011 vintage 375ml bottle - Scant bit of foam after pouring into glass. Deep opaque brown body. Aroma very clearly vanilla from the time in barrels. Thick body. Flavors of raisins and plums. Boozy brandy aftertaste. This is one of those sipping beers!! Missed it on tap at Beer Revolution, which would have been interesting to compare this bottle to.

(bottle). A generous pick from Keg_Juggler. Lots of cherry in aroma along with sweet malt. The flavor is intense with cherry, rich malt, prune, some cola and dried fruits which linger on palate. Not boozy for this ABV. Palate is very smooth. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

375ml bottle from bauermj. Dark brown with a hint of ruby, very faint tan head that leaves a ring around the glass. Interesting aroma - brandy, molasses, sweet malts, vanilla, slightly burnt caramel and oak; Low to non-existent carbonation but that is ok - not sure I would want this bubbly, moderate to full body, sweet and alcohol is present but not overwhelming, fruit is present - the angels share seems to be more prominent though.

375ml bottle. Near black pour with no head to be found. Must be the Angels Share portion. Both the aroma and flavor of this are layered and complex. Nose of oak, evidence of both bourbon and brandy barrel aging, toffee, and chocolate. Flavors of dark fruit, coconut, wood, and bourbon. Improved as it warmed.

375 ml bottle corked and caged poured into a snifter. Aroma is beautiful. Notes of raisins, dark chocolate, vanilla, and a huge complexity of oaky bourbon and brandy tones. The flavor mimics the nose with an added sweetness that compliments the amazing bourbon finish. Palate is exceptional with mild carbonation and a nice velvety texture. This is my first Lost Abbey beer that Ive had... Im floored this is quite possibly one of the best brews Ive had to date. Absolutely outstanding. Well worth its hefty price tag. Cheers
