And so the Three Wise Men set out from the East bearing gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh. Along the Way, they followed a bright light. The Bible neglects to mention if they brought beer or not. Who goes crossing the desert without beer? How smart are we to believe these wise men were? Since Christmas is the season of gift giving more than receiving, please be a giver and share the Wisdom found in each and every bottle of our Gift of the Magi.

One of my favorite offerings of one of my favorite styles. The fizzy carbonation calms down and flavors really come out as it warms.

Aroma is dark fruit, grainy/earthy malts and pixie sticks/sugar. The flavor is dark fruit/fruit, caramel, mild bubblegum, malts and a slightly sweet/warming alcohol finish.

beer_queue (140) - California, USA - FEB 23, 2017
Opaque, dark, reddish-brown with a thick beige head; big chucks of sediment clinging to the bottom of glass. Big red grape juice and caramel aromas. Taste follows the smell and leads with the sweet grape juice & caramel; a lot of hops in the mid-palate and finishes with spice & booze. Medium-full mouthfeel with a very sharp, biting carbonation up front; carb dies away pretty quickly, tho. Warms up some booze astringency.

sonnycheeba (5967) - Federal Hill, Baltimore, Maryland, USA - FEB 11, 2017
Tap at brewery. Pours clear copper. Aroma is lager yeast esters, pale malt, citrus hops, and earthy brett. Flavor is refreshing up front with crisp carbonation and lager yeast esters that flows into more farmhouse notes as the beer dries before the finish where just a hint of booze is present; hides the ABV well. Medium body.

snoworsummer (5621) - baltimore, Maryland, USA - FEB 11, 2017
Draft at the brewery. Pours clear bright reddish copper with a creamy beige head. Tastes like dried fruits, light booze, candied malt, spice, and light funk. Medium body and low carbonation. Smells like dried fruits, light booze, light herb, light spice, candied malt, and light funk.

PugUglyBrewer (615) - - JAN 29, 2017
For a lager, this is a bombshell. Rich amber color with a lively white head of soft carbonation. Sweet bread and light stone fruit characters with a pleasant alcoholic burn. Lost Abbey is an incredible brewery and they made the best lager ever.

dnstone (3386) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - JAN 16, 2017
Deep amber with a light haze and off white head. Nice sweet and moderately malty with dry fruit characteristic of quads with a spiced saison yeast character. Notes: Bottle from Brian at Eric’s bottle share, Dec ’16.

Capa (3251) - Kitsap, Washington, USA - DEC 29, 2016
Dark caramel malt, sweet fruit, ripe, some light spice, toast. A bit of a warm boozy finish. Not all that impressive.

crispaire (233) - - DEC 27, 2016
pours a dark amber from tap with a nice crema. aromas of warm spices, clove, and other familiar belgian-style ale scents. medium body with a slightly cloyingly sweet mouthfeel. decent finish with aftertaste of noble hops and brett funk. a solid example of a belgian ale.

MetalNHopHead (1887) - Lincoln, Nebraska, USA - DEC 17, 2016
Lost Abbey’s Gift of the Magi is on par with the seasonal offerings imported from Belgium at this time of year. It’s a sweet/spicy brew with more than a little booziness. Dark fruit and candy sugar aromatics. Fig, date, plum, raisin, prune, and molasses flavors. Warm, full-bodied feel - this is a sipper for chilly day. An exceptionally rainy California day will also work in lieu of a chilly day.
