COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ne Goeien is Flemish for "A Good One." We’d like to think this beer is exactly that. When we invited Hildegard Van Ostaden from Urthel to come brew with us at Port Brewing, we hoped the collaboration of our brewers and her passion for brewing would result in one fine beer. A simple Saison styled beer with firm bitterness is all she requested. From the beginning, it was easy to imagine this beer as Ne Goeien all the way.

Bottled. An unclear golden beer with a lazing off-white head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of wheat, lemon, and spices, medium notes of Belgian yeast and light notes of wheat. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of lemon, wheat, yeast, and lemon zest, as well as medium notes of spices, and light notes of coriander and malt, leading to a lightly bitter finish. I gave it 3.6 at the brewery and 3.1 in a blind tasting - this rating is sort of an average of the two.

750 ml bottle courtesy of MrChopin, thanks very much! Hazy golden color. Aroma of straw and lemon. Taste is malt with a hint of bitterness. Not bad.

Blind tasting at Papsø’s
Cloudy blond color. Strange aroma, lemony, a bit spicy, with some malt and plastic. Dry and lean mouthfeel, spicy wheat character, with too much final bitterness. Uninteresting.

750mL bottle at Brouwer’s Cafe, pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out Belgian yeast, some peach-like fruity notes, and some farmhouse notes. Flavour brings out notes of oxidation, with cardboard, some light fruity notes, floral notes and feint farmhouse notes. This one is obviously on its way down, with noticeable oxidation. Wish I had this a few years earlier. With that said, this is still a solid farmhouse beer.

Straw, hazy. Aroma of pedio, sweat, some light pepper and pale malt. The taste is pepper, but heavy on the pedio. Simple, with some breay notes. A little bit disappointing.

A: The pour is a nice golden orange color with a big, fluffy, clingy white head. S: A solid malt base with bready pale malts and hints of honey. Some floral and grassy hop notes along with a light citrus zest and yeast component. T: The flavor is light and crisp with the same clean malt base detected in the nose. Some mild bitterness along with a light grassy flavor and minimal citrus. M: The body is medium with a really crisp and refreshing feel on the tongue. D: I wish I could have tried this fresh, but this was still pretty nice. Easy to drink, clean, and quite refreshing for a warm day here in Southern California.

Bottle from South Bay Drug. Hazy orange golden color with a fluffy, creamy off-white head. Aromas of mild spice, mild light fruits and mild funk. Medium body with foamy, creamy carbonation. Flavor is astringent spice, some coriander?, some funk. It is both sweet and lightly sour. It is both hoppy and funky. It is a masterpiece. I think there’s a touch of apricot in the finish. I could go on and on.
