COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Farmhouse Ale traces its roots to the small rustic breweries of Southern Belgium. The word Saison comes to us from the French language and it means Season. Lightly spiced with Organic Ginger, Orange Peels, Black Pepper and Grains of Paradise, this brew promises to quench your thirst on the hottest Southern California days or wherever your travels may take you. Available in 750 ml bottles and on draft at select inspired locations.

Editor's note. This is a new incarnation of SPF 45, previously brewed at Pizza Port Solana Beach

Bottle. Deep gold with a large white head that lasts OK. Aroma of crackery dough, oranges, cloves. Medium bodied, high carbonation. Quite yeasty and quite bitter with a rush to the fairly spicy and dry finish. Some chives there too unfortunately. And - weirdly - a hint of booze. As it warms to about 12C mildly fruity (oranges, apricots) and doughy sweetness come through more and it seems more agreeable.

This is a good saison that incorporates ginger well. The spices you expect to get are there, but theyre not overpowering and they dont fight with each other to take center stage, so to speak. Red Barn Ale works; its light but still requires you to drink slowly and its got a nice finish.

pour is hazy orange with huge huge pillowy white head. Nose is plenty of grass and barnyard funk. Some straw and hay, caramel and grass clipping hops. Astringent finish and a something like (but probably isnt) boozey heat. Some mineral notes and tannins, apple skin and pear juice. Strong yeasty notes, fruity esters and dry dusty note.

Bottle shared. Bit of a gusher, very lively beer! Almost clear darker golden with big fluffy off white head. Quite spicy up front with yeast, cloves, allspice, cardamom. Theres some marmalade and dried apricot, soft caramel and honey. Its a bit syrupy sweet but not too much, with long lasting spicy bitterness. Medium bodied with fizzy carbonation. Quite some spices here!
