4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Poured from a 375ml corked and caged bottle into a Spiegelau tulip.
Appearance: Pours a deep mahogany brown with cherry red highlights, a little bit of gold around the edges and a little bit of sediment floating around.Features a thick, bubbly light tan head which sticks around for a while. Decent lacing.
Smell: Tart cherries, wine grape hulls, sweet oak and vinegar and a touch of funk.
Taste: Wine grape hulls and tart cherries up front followed by a smooth oaky sweetness in the middle before ending with more tartness and just a hint of funky notes at the finish. Aftertaste is a mix of bitter grape hulls, oak and funk. Very well-balanced.
Mouthfeel: Light-to-medium-bodied with a high amount of prickly carbonation. The tartness, while not really puckering, coats the mouth in a film - in a good way.
Drinkability: Excellent drinkability. This is very enjoyable. I just wish I had more.
Overall: Excellent beer overall. This is about as good as it gets as far as Flanders Reds go. If you see it, buy it. Yes, it’s pricey, but it doesn’t disappoint.
Hazy brown color with a light tan head. Aroma is sour with notes of cherry, vinegar, oak, yeast. Medium bodied, moderate to high acidity, well balanced. dorain (293) - Berlin, GERMANY - JUL 8, 2017
7/4/7/4/16 neongolden (1647) - Linköping, Sweden/Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 18, 2017
(375ml bottle from boxbeers.dk) Pours a slightly hazy ruby-brown with a quite large cream head that fades slowly leaving lace. Aroma of quite sour cherries, lots of wood, red wine vinegar, cherry pits, horseblanket Brett, lemon, spicebox, light caramel malt sweetness. Flavour of tart cherry, lemon, quite strongly woody, tangy astringent quality, some dusty yeast, light caramel sweetness, soft spice notes, maybe a touch of hard cheese. Finish is dry, low lingering fruity tartness, lots of oak. Light to medium bodied with smooth soft carbonation. The overall feeling does belie the relatively low ABV, but with that under consideration it’s a quite drinkable sour red. rdixon77 (2832) - Georgia, USA - MAY 29, 2017
Thanks Carl! Fantastic sour! Big bright cherry and other dark fruit with funk and tart nicely in balance. Moderate mouthfeel that sipped smooth.
