COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The history of the bible and religion is indeed the struggle of good vs. evil. Our Serpents Stout recognizes the evil of the dark side that we all struggle with. This is a massively thick and opaque beer that begs the saints to join the sinners in their path to a black existence.

DrnkMcDermott's rating

4.4
DrnkMcDermott (3097) - Downers Grove, Illinois, USA - SEP 29, 2011
2009 vintage, draft at Bavarian Lodge. Black stout in a small goblet with a short, but persistent tan head. The smell is very creamy, and invites deep inhalation. Really, really big on chocolate, and some coffee bitterness. Some background of vanilla. The beer menu did not imply this was one of the barrel aged versions, but it sure could have been. I have definite notes of oak and brandy-vanilla. Warming alcohol in Kahlua form. Some bits of tarty fruit toward the end, as Im checking out a taster of New Belgium Clutch at the same time (see my next rating).

Overcarbonated, without body, quite nice aroma but generally very, very below average imperial stout. I expect more from breweries like Lost Abbey

Bottle shared at tasting. Black beer with average, rocky, beige head. Aroma of dark fruits, dried plums, light chocolate and coffee. Taste is medium sweet and bitter, of chocolate, coffee, dark fruits, with roasty, coffee bitter finish. Medium to full body, oily texture, average carbonation. Very tasty RIS, although with surprisingly fruity aroma and too high carbonation.

750mL bottle. Pours inky black with a medium brown head. Good head retention. Aroma is coffee, licorice, cocoa, roasted barley, tobacco, and a little booze. Taste is coffee (and lots of it), roast, dark chocolate, licorice, and very faint notes of dark fruit. Fairly bitter finish. Relatively boozy. Full body. Moderate carbonation; approaching medium. Mouthfeel is sticky, slick, smooth, and just a little bit creamy. Maybe a 5 on the palate?

Pours pitch black with large beige head. When you pour it to the glass, it looks like old motor oil. Great. Aroma is of berries, chocolate, roasted coffee, vanilla, noble alcohol, pralines. Taste is licorice, bitter chocolate, espresso, vanilla. Great imperial stout done the good old way. Thumbs up!

Barwa ciemna, nieprzejrzyste. Obfita piana. W aromacie kawa, czekolada, słodkie akcenty wanilii. Bardzo dobrze zbalansowane, bardzo gęste, aksamitna tekstura. Na finiszu czekolada, i szlachetny, rozgrzewający alkohol. Dobre.
