We’d like you to know that we’ve taken some inspiration from the wine world for this blend. We have one oak barrel that was a sour base beer with Cabernet Franc grapes. We also stole a barrel of Brandy Angel’s Share that was earmarked for the next Angel’s Share Grand Cru. Lastly we blended in a barrel of Red Wine French Oak barrel aged Gift of the Magi with a smooth oak bretty backbone to complete the blend.

The beer is meant to be consumed and treated like a red wine. We expect there will be little to no bubbles. The oak presence is quite strong and the beer certainly will develop into a much rounder ale with some time in the cellar. Not all our beers are designed to be consumed early in their life. We took a chance with this one that more time would be a benefit to the blend. We expect those who have the patience to wait will be rewarded

I really felt this would rate higher, I like it. Something about the slightly tart grape combined with the more than expected subtle bourbon is quite tasty. I thought when I first got this it was a bit more sour, maybe so, but it’s still hiding out there just toned down. Flavors are plentiful, a nice sour fruitiness, mixed with raisin, syrup, and of course the bourbon. Again, quite enjoyable.

Alcohol and malt smell. Taste is mildly sour malt. Medium body, low sharp carbonation, and no foam.

"definitely a future entry into the american wild ale catergory. wasn’t sure what to expect, but was thinking more along the lines of sweet than sour. well...it was both. dark brown opaque body. little carbonation (on purpose :)) which fot with the flavor profile. aroma is crazy complex, like one of the last couple firestone anniversary beers. sour cherries, plum/dark fruit, roasted malt, alcohol. Lots going on with the flavor. bourbon in there somewhere too, but i’d be hard pressed to say exactly what went into this. definitely a multi beer multi barrel blend. sweet and sour finish gets you a little in the back of the throt making you forget the carbonation is low. ever so slightly my favorite beer of Superbowl Sunday 2011."

Bottle: Thanks, Kevin. Ruddy copper body, muddled. Absolutely no head or sign of carbonation at all. Nary a bubble. Huge brandy in the aroma. Sweet red apples, red wine, a touch of must. Lots of acetone, big vinegar quality with a slightly fusel, nail polish remover scent towards the back-end. The taste caught me off guard... Insanely tart. Granny Smith apple skin, sour grapes & Lemon Warheads. Sour as fuck. Apple cider vinegar, acetone, brandy, light wood, mild white wine essence. Puckering, mild woody tannins in the finish. Smooth & oily body. This beer is fucking weird but strangely enough, I enjoyed the mouth ripping sour flavor.

Bottle: The aroma consists caramel, apple, brandy, vinous, lemon, and a hint of acetone. It pours a hazy orangish-brown with a minimal off-white head that quickly fades to almost nothing. The flavor starts with caramel, toffee, light fruit, and a touch of apple. The finish has moderate sour apple, vinous notes, and a hint of vinegar. It’s medium bodied with minimal carbonation and a somewhat oily mouthfeel.

Pour is dark ruby red, slightly hazed, and virtually no head. Nose is heavy dark malt, cardboard and soy sauce with a light bit of cherry. Taste is brutal, slightly sour and tons of soy sauce and oxidation. The complete lack of carbonation makes the finish brutal with a fair bit of tart cherry.

Bottle. Pours reddish brown. Nose and taste of oak, brandy, wet leather, grape skin, caramel, cherry vinegar, lemon juice, acid and earth. Mouth-puckering tartness. Full bodied. A bit harsh.

Looks like a cherry wine. Still completely flat Totally acetic vinegar nose. Lots of cherries. Very sour. Some vinegar and grape skins. There’s a lot of soy sauce?

Bottle shared by Drew. Thanks! Pours a deep brown, pushing black. It’s flat. Nose is heavy barrel. Angel’s share is the driving force here, falling into some cherries and tartness. Fruity. On tasting, it is huge. Big and boozy, like Angel’s share blended with a sour ale (duh.) Super interesting in small quantities, it gets to be far too much after a while.

2010 bottle. Pours a clear medium brown, like light syrup. Complex aroma of sweet bourbon, fig, plum, and maple syrup. Taste of hot sour cherries with a light but lingering vinegar finish. Light body. A strange but awesome brew.
