This is my favorite Lost Coast offering and it has won multiple medals at the GABF. Incredibly smooth floral characteristics mix with a licorice body and the strength of the style make this a must have. gwfrankpsu (231) - McKinleyville, California, USA - JUL 10, 2002
December 2001, at the brewery. THIS IS THEIR FIRST BARLEYWINE? And they won a gold at the GABF? This is a wonderful brew, dark cherry in color, wonderfully smooth with and almost perfect malt/hop blend. You can almost chew this wonderful beer. I hope they keep it all year long. A justifiable gold medal-winner. Classic barleywine profile: succulent, extravagant malt, complex, dense fruit flavors, and powerful, though masked, bitterness. Suberb!! MrDick (381) - San Francisco, California, USA - FEB 16, 2003
2001 vintage (at Toronado Barley Wine Festival 2003). Amber pour with caramel and butterscotch flavors. A little bit of coffee undertones. SimonPatrice (312) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 25, 2002
Muddy orange color, not much head. Apple/pineapple/toffee aroma. Big malt flavour with a sharp, edgy, hoppy, bitter finish.

UPDATED: MAR 2, 2003 Tap @ brewery. Rich amber with an off-white head. Sweet apricot, apple, and caramel flavors. Sticky. Dark resinous fruit aroma. Re-Rate Tap @ Toronado Barley Wine Festival. A murky brown. Flavored with raisin, apples, alcohol, brandy, and malts. 21iceman40 (1735) - Grafton, Wisconsin, USA - APR 8, 2003
Deep ruby red color with a moderate amount of white foam at the peak.Lots of licorice and alcohol blended with some bitter tart. The breath resembles the afterburner fumes coming off of an F-16. DaSilky1 (2608) - San Diego, California, USA - APR 6, 2003
draught: Transparent burnt and petrified amber with a creamy top..subdued hop nose..lots of creamy licorice with a solid hop backing..a nice heated dragon's breath exhale reminds you that its 11%. BeerLimey (2155) - California, USA - APR 29, 2005
On Tap @ Lucky Baldwin’s Barleywine fest 2005 Listed as 1999 on the program.joet (2664) - Wilsonville, Oregon, USA - FEB 24, 2002
Dense reddish brown appearance. Fruity cherry malt aroma with fresh wild flower hoppiness. Sweet fruity malt palate, ginger balance cuts through. Lingering dried cherry and ginger aftertaste. Very interesting witha refreshing balance.
Barley Wine Fest: Toronado. Deep amber, cloudy and dim colr. totally headless. A bit doughy in the nose, some salt, thick, worty, softened hop finish. Tasted a less yeasty sample that was better. July 2001, tap, Eureka, CA. Malty aroma on alcohol vapors, fairly still, multidimensional malt, sweet and hoppy and with appreciable punch! Very nice.
