Wow, was I surprised by this beer! By no means is this the greatest brown ale in the world, but it aint bad at all. A great balance of malt and hops. I would try this beer again.

12 oz bottle. Pours a nice dark semi-opaque brown with light tan colored head with larger bubbles that fade rapidly, leaving only spotty slight lacing. The aroma is very faint, but smells like cinnamon and honey. Medium carbonation. This ale hits the brown nail on the head. Tastes very nutty and dark, with just a bare hint of very smooth tasting hops. This fades into a smokey finish that ends with almost no aftertaste at all. The palate is somewhat bubbly but not enough to displease at all. This was my first Lost Coast beer and it gives me hope.

UPDATED: JUN 19, 2007 courtesy of miss whalen, How to explain lost coast down town brown? Well one might start by saying that its very good. Then one might go on to say he tasted a little bit of nuts. It was a little toasty too. It welcomed me in like a nice old lady who is really only trying to be nice so she can get you to eat and become fat so she can cook you for dinner and feed the leftovers to her pet tiger oscar. But that would be silly to say all that.

Poured with no head, color a deep brown as expected. Aroma malted chocolate plus alcohol. Taste is pleasant toasty roasted malts at first, abruptly changing to watery Lipton tea-bag. Hops are barely perceptible as a backdrop of dish-soap. Alcohol very prominent as a flavor despite the beer being only 5%, perhaps due to the light hopping & lack of floral aromas. Quite creamy mouth feel, with small bubbles. I agree that this might be better as a nitro pour. As is, tastes like a weak porter needing additional floral hops.

On tap at Yard House. A little darker than your typical Brown ale. Very simular to the Rogue Hazelnut. Lots of caramel with a hint of chocolate. Nice carbonation, nice lacing, small light thin head.

A nice little beer -- not very assertive -- smells better than it tastes -- a not too heavy nut brown that hints a nutty, roasted malt but doesn't back it up very much. A good choice, but not the best -- but I'll buy it again.

12oz bottle: Pours dark brown with a very thin head that is a creamy tan in color. The aroma reminded me of caramel and pecan with a Nutty flavor. All in all it was a very good beer.

Not the best Id hoped for, but still decent. Initially it is hoppy, but then it finishes with a pleasant earthy taste. Despite it not being particularly grand, I did finish two glasses before I knew it.

A dark cola color with a lot of creamy-tan head. Mildly hoppy aroma. Lightly flavored and a bit thin. A little charcoal bitterness and some sweet malt. Nothing special.
