Mediocre head; no lacing. Very light in nose and flavor - toasted malt with medium hop finish. Pleasant but undistinguished. brianjames1 (539) - Northridge, California, USA - MAR 22, 2007
Pretty good brown-ale, not the best but also not the worst. Pours a medium brown, and goes down very smooth. grimreeser (797) - Minnesota, USA - APR 8, 2007
Pours dark brown with a small head. Aroma of chocolate, caramel, and nuts. Flavor seems to be a bit bland. Nothing special. GuyCuba (33) - California, USA - MAY 20, 2007
Sweet and smoky with hints of coffee and charcoal flavor, and a bit of spice at the finish, it’s tasty but not great.

Bottle. Pours a very deep brown with a short lasting tan head. Aroma is of toasted malt. Flavor is malty with some nut and molasses. I originally got into brown ales after trying Newcastle and this is definitely more flavorful, more malt but for some reason i still like Newcastle better.

Nutty and chocolate malt character in the nose. Slight bit of roast is also apparent. Opaque darkest brown body is topped by a low, fine bubbled, cream coloured head that recedes rapidly to a large bubbled and thin cover that lasts well. Nutty malt flavour is unfortunately a bit watery. Some chocolate sweetness and a touch of fruitiness. Roasted bitterness lingers in the aftertaste. Light medium body is somewhat thin and astringent. Carbonation is pointy and sharp. Tulip glass. Just above fridge temperature. Bottle (Brewery Creek, Jan-08). Airlifter (134) - Shawnee, Kansas, USA - FEB 17, 2008
A dark cola color with a lot of creamy-tan head. Mildly hoppy aroma. Lightly flavored and a bit thin. A little charcoal bitterness and some sweet malt. Nothing special. Gregis (1281) - Stilwell, Kansas, USA - MAR 27, 2008
Pours a clear burgundy with a finger of creamy, beige head. The aroma is a nutty, roasted malt with an acrid, astringent note coming forward; not great. Medium-bodied and slick with soft carbonation and a clean, lightly roasted finish. The flavor is a slight improvement over the nose: nutty, roasted malt with a mildly astringent finish. This is a decent brown, but it’s not one I’d buy again. StFun (567) - Indiana, USA - MAR 31, 2008
Pretty good Brown, really. I find a lot of Brown’s to be boring and bland, but this is one of the better one’s I’ve tried. Fairly strong for a brown, with notes of coffee and almonds. A nice smooth texture, and solid brown color. Smooth tasting as well. Not complex, but what *I* would look for ina brown. GJF (1520) - Mount Vernon, Iowa, USA - APR 2, 2008
Pours a dark brownish red with a tan head. Decent malt aroma. Sweet malt upfront with a mildly bitter, brief finish. Fairly thin in flavor and body to me, though.
