IslandHaole (1286) - Misawa, JAPAN - SEP 13, 2017
A slight haze to this amber colored brew. Has a creamy lasting head of small bubbles. Leaves sheets of lacing in the glass. Industrial strength left coast hops, plenty of grapefruit peel and pine tar here with undertones of allspice and caramel sweetness of the malt. A hopsplosion of citrus peel flavor followed by a hint of toffee sweetness before the wave of hoppy bitterness consumes everything in its path. Good body and mouthfeel. Did I mention hops? It has them by the barrel full. This one ranks up there with the best of the DIPAs.

Cloudy orange, dark, with lace. Huge hop nose, very piny and resinous, plus some citrus and stone fruit. Heavy and a bit sweet, but nice resiny flavors and peaches, biscuits, touch of caramel. Fun stuff.

I can’t tell you how happy I was to hear Stone Cold Steve Austin extolling the virtues of craft beer, IPAs in particular, on his podcast over the past year or so. After seeing him crack Miller Lites and Budweisers for so many years on WWE television, it was refreshing to hear that he had a matured palate for beer. Not that there’s anything wrong with the occasional Miller Lite or Budweiser… Okay, maybe that’s more of a CYA in case my dad or girlfriend come across this post…
