Keg at the Grove Inn, Huddersfield. Reddish brown shade with absolutely zero head. Nose is lightly spicy, hedgerow fruity. At ACBF. Highly unusual sour ale, in that this is apparently semi-spontaneously fermented with yeasts sitting on the peel of the grapes that are being added. Needless to say, the result is an extremely vinous beer, with a medium, yellowish white head and dark burgundy colour; extremely fruity taste, esters - grapes, wine vinegar, candied orange, spicy notes, utterly vinous mouthfeel, fruity acidity increasing and drying the finish along with woody tannins and some warming alcohol, like an old sherry. Very interesting - and confirming my impression that the Italians, or better put, the new generation of Italian craft breweries, are becoming the masters of vinous, barley wine and grape-influenced beers.

Tap. Poured a hazy dark red copper color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with very good lacing. Moderate to heavy earthy sour fruit aroma. Medium to abundant body with a sticky texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy sour flavor with a medium to heavy sour finish of moderate to long duration. This is a solid beer for style.
