I.I.C.S.S. Italian Imperial Coffee Spiced Stout Top Fermented Beer. It is the same basis that gave birth to Papëssa too. It goes to barrel (barrique) and stay there for 12 months. During this period I add coffee and spices. The name Marché ’l Re is a card game name very played here in Piedmont in the past. People were used to play it in coffee shops, drinking coffee with fernet (Fernet is a type of amaro, a bitter, aromatic spirit. Fernet is made from a number of herbs and spices). Inspiring to that, I use a blend of Caffè Vergnano (a very famous brand of coffee from Chieri) and spices as rhubarb, saffron, gentian and cinchona. "Ebony beer, strong in character, very complex. In the nose it is rich of an intriguing mix of flavors as chinchona, soy sauce, coffee and chocolate stuffed with candy orange. Spicy notes of gentian root and saffron are standing in the palate, well balanced by coffee and dried mushrooms notes. Try it with sushi, blue cheese or as ingredient for a different tiramisù." - Lorenzo Dabove aka Kuaska

37,5cl bottle at home. Black with a brown, frothy head that soon settles to a thin layer. The first aroma that is evident is an intriguing and complex winous sour that reminds me of balsamico vinager. But there is also some earthy basement aromas, and lingering in the back is the coffee. As the beer warms up I´m getting more and more treelike/woody aromas as well. Tastes of a combination of dried fruits, spices and chocolate, plenty of bitterness in the finish.

Bottle. Dark brown in colour, big white head - the beer was seriously overcarbonated. This is sour stout with poor coffee aftertaste, bitter with acidic finish. Some barrel notes found, but nothing really great. Huge disappoinent.

Assaggio @ kamun lab pub. Scura senza schiuma. Al naso caffè macinato fresco. In bocca esce nota china che lotta col caffè. Strana e poco bevibile, interessante comunque. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhold

Sehr dunkle trübe braune Farbe, ordentliche beige Schaumkrone.

Sample at Vini Birri, shared with Mathieu87 and 77ships.
APPEARANCE: black beer, small unstable beige head.
NOSE: coffee, chocolate, mocha.
TASTE: coffee, chocolate, mocha, little sour and fruity, oranges aftertaste.

King_Alex_II (1227) - SWITZERLAND - DEC 9, 2014
Sour stout. The beer seems to have two phases, but they harmonize quite well. The sour taste combined with the strong body works good, but I don’t like the coffee in the finish.

Very black color with small beige head. Chalk and ashes, espresso, but also a fruity sourness. This dry chalky character is very irritating. The sourness gives some sort of a balance. Very very dry. Low carbonation.
