3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Stark Dark Wheat
Appearance: Deep reddish brown, foamy light tan head, but it doesn’t last, cloudy.
Aroma: Bubblegum, some spice like clove, fig.
Flavour: Licorice or dark fruits, slight bitterness, pumpernickel.
Mouthfeel: Lively carbonation front and centre, well balanced, some yeasty herbally dryness in the finish.
Overall: Decent dunkelweizen, exceptional by Asian standards!
A dark brown ale with a thick frothy lacing collapsing brown head. In aroma, sweet fruity malt with dark fruits and soapy notes, light mineral notes. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity dark malt with light fruity notes, peated notes, light grassy hops, light mineral notes, surprisingly nice, compared to the regular wheat. Bottle from Bali. [backlog] 05-06-15 // on tap at Starks House, Kuta Bali. Dark brown colour. Very watery. Not much yeasty aroma. Disappointing. Imaena (2328) - Maputo, MOZAMBIQUE - JUN 13, 2016
Bottle. This is a nice malty brew with a bit more body and some light roasting. alex_leit (4782) - Minsk, BELARUS - APR 18, 2016
Bottle (Thanks to goodzon ).
Hazy brown color, good creamy foam. Aroma: banana, caramel, candy, dried banana, a little prunes. Taste: caramel, banana, yeast, a little dried fruit, sparkling. Daniehac (8) - SINGAPORE - DEC 28, 2015 does not count
Nose: yeasty, vegemite, iron / blood, lemon tart.
Pour: frothy, dissipating after 3 min to random small bubbles and a very thin head.
Taste: sour, vegemite, espresso that's been left out way too long, gastric juices. Somewhere there's an underlying hint that this is supposed to be a dark beer but you know that something went disastrously wrong in the process.
Overall, this is quite terrible. One dimensional, unpleasant and a chore to attempt to finish (I didn't). Marginally better than the brewery's regular Wheat beer, but that really isn't saying much. Back to the drawing board.

I was hoping for great things when I found this in Bali, to add a little variation to the beer drinking rather than Bintang Bintang Bintang. Unfortunately, after a decent looking pour, nice colour, good head the taste was truly horrid, incredibly sour which I can only assume was due to poor handling. Poured dark amber almost black . Initially large frothy tan head. Light peppery yeasty aroma. Mouthfeel is crisp with carbonation. Malt flavour, clove and banana notes. defiantly better then excpected for indonesian beer standards. rosenbergh (11653) - Tampere, FINLAND - MAY 29, 2015
330 ml bottle. ±5%. BB 07/2015. From Indonesia. A big thank you to Hellu!blackisle (2695) - Amsterdam IJburg, NETHERLANDS - APR 6, 2015
Murky brown colour with a tiny off-white head.
Mild spices, mild sourness and mild malt in a mild aroma.
The flavour is wheaty malt, raisins, dark fruits, sweetness and mild sour notes.
Not in perfect condition I believe.
Bottle 33cl. @Stark’s House Jalan Legian Kuta Bali. Color cloudy deep redbrown, big frothy beige head, dissipates quickly, light lacing; fruity nose, banana, bubble-gum, bit nutty, cloves; taste light sour and sweet, bit of citrus; medium body, oily texture, average carbonation, aftertaste sweet and sour, fruity and spicy notes; somewhat heavier and more complex than the wheat version but slightly less convincing, though altogether another nice surprise from this part of the world... 33cl bottle purchased in Bali. Medium sized head which very quickly dissipates. Aroma of fruits - raisins, banana, and earthy malt notes.
Chocolate brown in colour Heavily carbonated. Light banana on the palate. Sour aftertaste - very acidic. Disappointing.
