Bottle at the brewpub. Golden beer with a decent offwhite head. Malty bready aroma, caramel, grainy, spicy notes, herbal notes. Malty bready flavor, grassy, spicy, floral, hay, some herbal notes. Ernest (7748) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - MAY 15, 2013
Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly diminishing.
Body is light yellow.
Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly to moderately hoppy (herbs, flowers), with a light note of soap.
Flavor is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation.
Like the Ungespundetes, pretty underwhelming. Light, bland, and ordinary. A tad soapy, but the hops are bright ganache (6013) - New Jersey, USA - SEP 1, 2012
Bottle by 16.10.12. Nose of sweet malt with some grass and lighter chalk. Dull clear golden with a rocky bright white head. Light body with moderate carbonation and a grainy/chalky feel, lightly bittersweet with some citrus and a hint of tannin/astringency, but the overall effect is disappointing -- sort of dusty and stale. Aftertaste is really grainy. cubs (10677) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - JUL 24, 2012
Bottle @ Uncle Chris’ house in Fürth. Clear, yellow appearance with a nice, fluffy white head. Tangy fruity, light green apple, grainy aroma that seems off. Fruity yeasty, pear/apple, light yeasty, straw aroma. Tastes and smells off- I’m afraid that I may have gotten an old bottle (too bad the bottle wasn’t dated). My Bottom Line :
Lightly toasted cereals and their sweetish undercurrents benefit from a rustic character before grassy hops take control of the aftertaste.
Further Personal Perceptions :
-There is barely a veil of foam atop the clear pale yellowish gold.
-While the body is quite lean, it never feels thin.
-A citrusy touch accompanies the wooden, grassy hop finish.
-The aroma gets better and better upon warming, showcasing more hay-like malt depth.
-This is obviously very drinkable; as their house blond lager, such personality in the flavor profile is commendable too.
