(From the keg) Mahogany brown beer, with vigorous fine carbonation, and a dense off-white head. The aroma mild, with sweet malt, toffee, caramel, and juicy sultanas, then roasted nuts and earth towards the end. The lively effervescence keeps the beer light and smooth on the palate.
This beer typifies the German Dunkel: it retains the crisp profile of pilsner, whilst imbued with hints of rich toffee malt. Slightly bittersweet, and pleasantly clean, this is a fine example of the style.
P.S. no offence to the Germans, but this tastes so much better at cellar temperature... JoeMcPhee (9427) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 3, 2005
Brown beer with a thin off-white head. Smell is nicely malt, toasty, with toffee, faint plum and brown sugar. Flavour is chewy, malty and toasty. A bit of distracting hop skunkiness in spite of the nice maltiness. Herbaceous flavour mixed with toasted malt. Finishes with light toast and noble hop flavour. raymondwave (931) - FINLAND - APR 10, 2007
Sweet, roasted. The alcohol comes in surprisingly hard. Actually it is quite strong for a dunkel. Not far from some mildest dunkler bocks, yet a bit thinner. Nice smooth mouthfeel like other Lowenbräu’s I’ve had. Jukkabro (3484) - Tampere, FINLAND - AUG 21, 2007
Dark coca-cola colored, little yellow head. Rich aroma with sweet roastiness and some nutty caramel. Medium bodied. Flavor is also nicely sweet with chocolate and toffee, aftertaste dries mildly. This nutty touch reminds me of some German doppelbocks. Crispy palate, surprisingly good dunkel.

Dark brown with a small, creamy head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt and caramel. The flavour has a light sweetness, notes of roasted malt, caramel, light hints of nuts and the finish is dry. It seems so malty clean in the overall impression. dutchbeerpages (2439) - Wilnis, NETHERLANDS - FEB 19, 2012
Fruity, mostly apple. Nice, Drinks like water almost, nice and smooth but not a pretty color. At the Löwenbräu Keller in München. Marcius (442) - Geneva, SWITZERLAND - SEP 15, 2013
Amber color (dark) and high foam with medium duration.
Faint aroma, but you can feel the toasted malt.
The taste is roasted malt and hops, that balances the bitterness well.
A good Dunkel! Mads Langtved (2243) - Copenhagen K, DENMARK - AUG 28, 2003
An average dark. This Löwenbräu dunkel is good if you see it as a mass produced beer. But it is not something extraordinary. JonR888710 (999) - Cochabamba, BOLIVIA - JUN 25, 2004
Burnt copper body with a thick creamy head. Smells lightly of malts, barley. Tastes of malt, light english hops, soda water. Hoppy aftertaste. Not much flavor. Sampled on draught at the Lowenbrau restaurant at the Rocks in Sydney, Australia.
