Bottle from Trafalgar Wines, Brighton. Looks great - as you would expect from a Munchner special; reddish brown, like a beaver (the four legged kind) submerged in cherry cola. Rich, delicious aroma of Lyle’s golden syrup cake and chicken satay mixed with honey and sultanas. Seriously. Taste is initially strongly honey, syrup and ginger but settles down, avoiding being too sweet as the bittersweet malt aftertaste comes through. There’s definitely some lemon juice and Benylin in there too. The one downside was that it felt a bit thin and watery but with a taste like this I didn’t mind too much. A triumph indeed - and my first 4+ score in 50 beers. It’s been a long time...

Very dark brown with quick fading head. Aroma and flavour have plenty of dark bittersweet malts. Hints of liquorice and coffee.

Bottle at Beerdock Leek. Pours a hazy brown colour with a medium off white head. Aroma of caramel, bready malts, some dark fruits, raisin and subtle spicy hops. Taste of caramel, bready malts, some dark fruits, prune, slight brown sugar and subtle spicy hops. Medium bodied and a slick texture. A sweet, dark fruit bitterness in the finish. Lots of dark fruits and brown sugar. Slight bready malts and subtle spiciness. A solid dopplebock but there’s a lot better.

Bottle. Dark brown color wih creamy eggshell head. Aroma is malty, bready, some prunes. Taste is prunes, bready, sirupy. Warming finish. Creamy mouthfeel, but with a bit of a fizzy carbonation. A bit too sweet and unbalanced, but still quite nice.

Not so easy to rate by appearance as it was served in a ceramic mug. However, the head is pretty dense and persistent and leaves nice lacing. Aroma shows dark bread, caramel, dark/dried fruits and some kind of ’dusty’ hint that i quite can’t determine (it’s something in between roasted and smoked malts). Overall it’s quite intense and very pleasant. Taste follows the aroma suggestions with perfect balance of sweet and bitter notes in both taste and aftertaste. Again it’s also quite intense. Medium body, light carbonation, highly drinkable and easy for the abv but still nicely soft and slightly warming. Perfectly balanced, highly drinkable and quite complex. A truly excellent beer
