Who gives a monkey?

Dutch seafarers returning from the east would often bring back monkeys, which they would sell to tavern-keepers to pay off drinking debts. Our IPA, with its hints of botanicals and spice, is a tribute to those sailors’ spirit of adventure and quick thinking.

In the few quick brews I’ve sampled, Lowlander have become one of my “favourite” Dutch brewers, so I’ll be keeping an eye out for more of their stuff going forward. The IPA is not high on my list of the brews I’ve tried, but it was decent, fairly hoppy and enjoyable, if only a little thin. Bottle shared with a friend in Rotterdam’s Beer Boutique.

Golden orange pour with long lasting white head. Soft, hidden almost, aroma of tropical fruits, hops and some malt. Mildly sweet and middle of the road bitter ending in a typical tea dryness. Medium body, same bubbles. Pretty tasty.

330 ml Bottle. Pours with a cloudy pale golden color and a white head. (Bitter) Fruity nose of citrus and orange- peel with quite herbal and grassy aroma Taste is slightly malty with an intresting tea flavor with watery influence. Doenst fit....Medium bitter, finish is ok, but nothing special.

Bottle 33 cl, pours a clear golden colour with a white head, spicy aroma with a moderate bitter taste. Also some spices in the taste.

Bottle from the Offie, Leicester. Light orange-ish gold, clear with a ring of white head and a bit of lacing. Enticing notes of pine, resin, tea leaves and some vanilla on the nose. It tastes fairly sweet at first with some chewy caramelly malt, although it has a touch of bitter hop near the finish. More tea, some clementine peel and toffee in the aftertaste. Body's a touch thin. Moderate carbonation. A lovely drink. Really works.

skortila (5996) - Baarn, NETHERLANDS - OCT 26, 2017
Bottle from local ah. The aroma has some citrus, hint of grass, bit spice. Bit hazy, golden coloured beer with a thin white head. The taste is light-moderate bitter with some citric grassy and spicy tones. Finish is more dry bitter. Bit boring.

Very decent IPA, definitely one to drink away, the tea flavour is obvious and makes it more palatable and fresh. Not a very noteworthy other herbal tone, but it doesn't need it.

I wasn't too fond of this IPA. I didn't like the tea and coriander blends in there.

330ml bottle (Kaisla, Helsinki) (5:3:6:3:12=2.9)

Slightly stinky stodgy and woody hop aroma. Orange, small tight head. Light palate. Malty breadiness dominates the taste. Malty, and a touch stodgy in the finish.

Grima (2510) - Merzkirchen, RLP, GERMANY - SEP 3, 2017
Bottle from Wolter's, Wasserbillig, Luxembourg!

Pours pale orange with a solid head. Aroma has pine, orange and grapefruit. Taste has tropical fruits, sweet sugar, grapefruit and citrus, also some slight spices. Dry bitter-fruity finish.
