Craig was Lucid’s largest Kickstarter donor. This beer was brewed in his honor. Brewed with chocolate, crystal, and flaked-rye, Craig’s Ale is rich and complex with chocolate and peppery notes. This firkin was aged on cocoa nibs.

Bottle thanks to Rob. Pours a cloudy copper with thick frothy off white head that lasts leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is chocolate, nuts, toffee. Thin mouthfeel with rich malt, chocolate, raisin, and light dry finish. Decent.

Bottle @ a recent bottle share... Poured reddish brown with an easy forming off-white head. This was interesting beer and concept, but overall it was underwhelming. Some cocoa notes with balancing rye spice and bitterness. Bread-like malts and rye mostly on this.

Pours a dark chocolate-brown, with (in my case) a huge, pillowy head. Maybe I got a bottle that was over-carbonated or something, but this was spraying out once I uncapped it. The aroma has some roasted grain in it and some alcohol notes. Flavor contains some chocolate and some roasted grain, but is largely of leather, with a strange, lingering sourness at the end of it, like a wild yeast or something snuck into this. I don’t think I’d drink another bottle, but it was worth a try.

Brown with no head. Looks really flat. Nice sweet nose. Not as much rye as expected. Really smooth finish with some alcohol burn at the end

On tap at Grumpy’s NE, pours amber with large off-white head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, and some spice. Taste of chocolate and caramel malts with an uneasy peppery alcohol punch. Really no rye, drinkable I guess, certainly forgettable.

From the description it sounds like a very intriguing blend. The flavor here wasn’t as bold or unique as anticipated, but it was still good. The chocolate tends to outpace the rye, and softens it helpfully, too. But not an overwhelming "chocolate beer" either. (on tap at Groveland Tap, St. Paul)

Minnesota Winterfest 2013. Dark red color with a small head. Strong rye and grain aroma. Very heavy rye flavor. Quite bready. I could be talked into a pumpernickle comparison. Moderate bitterness. Thick mouthfeel.

Growler. Malty dry aroma. Dark brown sparse head poured from growler that looked someway flat coming out. Really good brown with good balance and solid moderate hop and mostly malt. Lightly carbonated that may be less so out of the tap.
