A Belgian golden ale. On the nose it is lightly hoppy and yeastily spicy, with faint caramelly malt notes and a touch of citrusy and estery fruit. The head tastes extremely bitter, as is often the case with this style. Surprisingly fruity, but with a strong hoppy bitterness. There is a warming, malty, vanilla quality to it, which develops into an alcohol kick towards the end. Secondary fermentation in the bottle.

Very spicy, a bit rough on the palate, you can feel the alcohol going down. Not exactly a top notch BSA but passable.

UPDATED: JAN 17, 2004 Re-Rate 01/17/04: The beer pours a transpicuous gold color with a mountainous bright white head; the texture is spumous in texture with the remaining lace a thin white veil to conceal the glass. Malt dominates the nose, lightly sweet with a fresh crispness, a smidgeon of yeast, pleasant as noses go, start is decently malted and sweet, top is middling in feel. Finish is dastardly acidic, the hops are delightful in their spiciness, desert bone dry and long lasting the aftertaste, also a bit of belly warming, a decent beer, can’t say it’s a favorite, but drinkable nonetheless.

Good Ale. Nice balance of spice, fruit and hop flavor. Finishes with a nice clean crisp bitter taste.

UPDATED: JAN 6, 2004 750ML bottle, no date: White fizzy head that quickly settles to a thin tiny bubbled one. Cloudy straw color, huge spicy, yeasty aroma that is certainly this brews high point. Fizzy mouthfeel and way too much alcohol when you swallow. 8%ABV?? I would have guessed 10! A beer to try and enjoy, but not love. Not as good as the sum of its parts.

This has a pale ale quality, but is not really impressive. ................

No. A very hot Belgian. Has that 'rubbing alcohol/Sea Breeze' taste. It also has those big ugly bubbles in the head that I hate. As soon as I see those bubbles, I know that the beer is gonna suck.

I really didn't get much out of this beer, as I was several sheets to the wind and just taking swigs straight from the bottle. Even in my drunken state I could taste that it was a strong belgian with a lot of spice.

Reminded me of a Hennepin....I am not a fan of the golden belgian style....just too spicy.

This was probably the second most disappointing Belgian I've ever had, second only to Stella Artois. Grainy taste, not nearly as assertive or hoppy as other Belgians.

Pours with a huge, foamy head. Slightly more carbonation than i expected, and lighter in colour. Lovely pepper and fruit smell, almost a spiced wine. It drinks a lot lighter than i might have thought too, but it still packs a bit of a spicey aftertaste. I like this one!
