COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A Belgian golden ale. On the nose it is lightly hoppy and yeastily spicy, with faint caramelly malt notes and a touch of citrusy and estery fruit. The head tastes extremely bitter, as is often the case with this style. Surprisingly fruity, but with a strong hoppy bitterness. There is a warming, malty, vanilla quality to it, which develops into an alcohol kick towards the end. Secondary fermentation in the bottle.

Blond color; big head. Quite alcoholic aroma, some hops, dry. The taste is quite sweet, but too much alcoholic; light liquorice in the beginning, more fruity later.

330ml bottle from Sainsbury. Hazy gold colour with fluffy white head. Not a huge aroma, some yeasty hoppy citrus. Fine in mouth with citrus hop finish. Fine if unexciting golden strong ale.

Slightly hazy golden; aroma of alcohol, peach, biscuit, slight bit of paint thinner (effin' Riva again with the phenols), faint cardamom. Body has a plasticy, fizzy feel. Peppery character, a little bread, a little acidity. These wanna-be Duvels have a tough time coming into the same ballpark - gives me more respect for the original.

Bottled (BBE 09/2009)
Pale yellow color, lively white head. Foam wants to come out from the bottle. Aroma has citron, yeast, cardboard and some honey. Medium-bodied. Fruity, sweet yeasty, almost sugary. Hoppy bitterness in the finish. Finish has metal sharpness and alcohol. Quite enjoyable, but could have more bitterness.

UPDATED: OCT 24, 2006 Bottled. Well-carbonating, clear, golden-orange with a huge, large-bubbled, lasting off-white head and lots of floaties. Alcohol, apple, some yeast and cellar, and orange-notes in the aroma. Citrus, sugar, alcohol, wheat-notes and some spices in the flavor. Medium body and a finish with alcohol, fruit and spices. Expected more alcohol in this one, so it was a pleasant surprise. (060929)

330ml bottle (Delirium Cafe, Brussels) BB2010-12, drunk 2011-01
5 Not much aroma, only slightly sweet light berries.
3 cloudy orange with sinky bits, small head. Delirium barman poured rather than us, grrr...
6 Gentle light grains, milky, absolutely no hint of alcohol, and it doesn’t taste like a big beer at all. Has some of the sweetness of fresh almonds.
4 Pleasant palate before you get to the sludge at the bottom (which squicks me a bit), good level of carbonation.
14 Aged very well, massively mellow and soft. Shame that it’s lacking some balls in the aroma department. Dunno if the new moortgat Lucifer will compare well to this, I hope so.

Dedollewaitor (16315) - Odense, DENMARK - NOV 3, 2007
33 cl (round bottle) Slight unclear pale piss yellow with a lasting egg white head. Sweet aroma of fruits, alcohol & yeast. Very sweet malty taste with a citrus touch. Yeast & wheat also dominant. Traces of honey... This had much more to offer than expected. OK...

Bottle. 8.5%. Bottle. Spicy pepperiness in aroma, fresh ground pepper. Golden colour, big stable white head. Fruity flavour, thin mouthfeel. Not excactly watery, but the flavour is a bit thin. Nicely peppery, though, and a good example of a Belgian strong.

bhensonb (15607) - Woodland, California, USA - OCT 17, 2008
Bottle from Sun Devil in Mesa, AZ. Hazy golden body with a huge off-white head. Mild aromas of kandi, pale malt and a mild spicy fruit. Medium body with smooth carbonation. It starts sweet but something like citrus zest cuts that. It’s not citrus though. It’s very smooth. Not so strongly flavored as some. Deceptive as to alcohol. A little light stone fruit in the finish.

330 mL bottle. Pours a light golden color with a HUGE frothy thick white head. The aroma is a light malt with banana and citrus notes. Lacing stains the glass on this one. The taste is honey and a sweet vanilla finish. A well done belgian.
