Certified Evil is an undomesticated beast. A dark, ominous and oak aged creation, its aggressive hops battle its massive malt profile, flavor assaulting all those who bear witness.
Malt beverage brewed with brown sugar, raisin juice, molasses, cardamom and orange peel and aged in wine casks.
The new Certified Evil recipe is more complex and interesting than the brew from 2008. This new beer blends Certified Evil aged in Cabernet barrels for one year with a younger batch of oaked aged Certified Evil. The combination makes for a vibrant yet smooth and elegant taste. The recipe also includes a wide variety of complex sugars including turbinado sugar, molasses and honey. The result is an amazingly complex beer. Truly a must try to any craft beer lover.

Smooth yet complex flavor. Smells and tastes of molasses with cardamom very present in the finish. Well worth a taste! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Sampled at happy harrys beer and bacon festival in grand forks. Lots of Roasty and woody notes. Nice stout.

What a bizarre beer. Its a super dark brown color, light brown head. Flavors? All over the map Roasted malt, vinous tart flavors, browed butter, charred oak, ash...hard to wrap my head around this beer.

Very dark pour some tan head. Aroma of leather, long pepper, malt toffee, lactic, caramel, raisins. Tastes strongly of raisins, tobacco, dairy product. Some buttery acidity like wine from the barrels. Some smoke flavor. Mid-light mouthfeel for a dark beer. Spice from the oak . This definitely is a half beer half wine. the orange peel and cardamom don’t make it through all the other components which is okay from an already very complex brew.

Draft at JL Beers Fargo. Pours black with a thin khaki head. Doesn’t leave much lacing. Slight red wine note on the nose. There’s charcoal and kool aid on the tongue. A bit watery in the tongue. Hides it’s alcohol well. Unfortunately it doesn’t hide it’s dreadful taste.

I have no idea if I am putting this rating in the right place, but the bottle looks the same and everyone else seems to be putting their ratings here, so... - black pour - minimal lace - has some tart and tannic notes in the nose that are decent, but there are also strong aromas of DMS/boiled cabbage, burnt popcorn, char - flavor is sweet chocolate up front, as well as mild roast and smoke - later flavors of burnt popcorn, light DMS, light copper, mild tartness - overall messy and confusing - their lager was terrible and this isn’t all that good (although I likely won’t pour it down the drain like I did the lager) - I have one more beer from this brewery to try - I am not looking forward to it.

Had this on draft at lucky bucket brewery. This one is good black thick pour. Tan head. Malt and coffee notes. Well balanced beer

12 oz bottle pours black with a tan head. Aroma of sweet malts, cocoa and fruit. Taste is real complex, dried fruit, malts chocolate and a hint of coffee. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: APR 1, 2013 3/8/13 Recent bottling 10% LOOK: very dark with thin mocha head NOSE: musty wood, damp soil/mud, cherry cigar tobacco, burnt old coffee, fruity something...probably from the wine cask, some chocolate, smoked oyster TASTE: tangy coffee, bitter chocolate, cherry cigar, some taste of smoked oyster as well, long tangy/bitter coffee finish FEEL: nice smooth feel...feels like I just smoked a cigar OVERALL: didn’t notice the 10% at all, unique and pretty good... not great though... a lot going on, but doesn’t seem to all come together very well Room temp Pair with smoked oysters possibly? UPDATE: yes, very good with smoked oysters!!
