Lucky Labrador Pavlovs Russian Imperial Stout

RATINGS: 41   WEIGHTED AVG: 3.65/5   SEASONAL: Special   EST. CALORIES: 297   ABV: 9.9%
The Lucky Lab is proud to present Pavlovs Russian Imperial Stout, aged six months in a port barrel! Huge flavor from the roasted barley balanced with hints of vanilla from the barrel gives way to notes of raspberries and black currants from the Port. This is all followed by underpinnings of chocolate, caramel and licorice. With a head of dark coffee color, its all wrapped up with a finish of esters and warming alcohol. Northern Brewer, Fuggles and Goldings hops.
OG 25.0, FG 5.2, ABV 9.9%, IBUs 65

I tried this sweet deliciousness on tap during a brewery tour around Portland, OR. Out of several brewery samples around the city, this came in as my favorite beer. It poured thick, black and rich with a dark tan head. Taste had notes of brown sugar, caramel, coffee, and oak. Beautiful finish-lightly sweet and balanced. The taste lingered on my palate and left me looking forward to the next sip. The higher alcohol content didnt make this beer too rich either as Ive experienced time and time again. I wasnt an imperial stout drinker before this beer, but I have been trying to find one that compares since.

At Holiday Ale Festival in Portland. Pours dark brown with a reddish tan head. Aromas of melted chocolate, caramel and vanilla--yummy. Unfortunately, taste doesnt quite live up, with too much caramel, and a red wine finish.

Thanks to Matt for sharing this beer at thirdeye11s recent tasting. The beer pours black with a dark brown head. The edges of the beer are dark red. The aroma is chocolate, port and roasted malt. The flavor is chocolate, roasted malts, dark fruits, oak, vanilla, port and licorice. Medium mouthfeel and low carbonation. A very nice barrel-aged beer where the port notes really shine.
