’imperial’ porter on tap 7/6/10 at the brewpub.
typical porter color ruby brown with a tannish head.
it smells of lactose, wood, floral hops, nuts, coffee and chocolate with a hint of alcohol.
the flavor is the same with the addition of black raisins and some molasses. it is pretty dry throughout.
medium bodied crisp mouth feel and texture. not a strong effort but certainly not a poor one. 6/3/7/4/14/3.4 daknole (11049) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - JUL 16, 2010
Bottle. Nearly black pour, light brown head. Aroma hits with what smells like cascade hops followed by some molasses, light chocolate and prunes. Flavor is hoppy on the start, molasses, dried fruit, chocolate, espresso and followed by more hops. Nice brew! sneagrams3 (2337) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - JUN 14, 2010
Tasted 6/14/10. 22oz bomber. Opaque with a dark brown hue. Big bubbled khaki head. Aromas of soggy malts, grape-nuts cereal and grassy hops. Interesting. Faint spicy mint and dark chocolate. Mild smoke and coffee grounds. This is at cellar temperature, and I think this aspect really helps in the olfactory. It also accentuates this style of robust beer. Too much coffee and slowly following up with the dark chocolate and fudge. Bitter and tart flavors. Smoked coffee beans and bittersweet chocolate. Not quite as toasty as I like my porters. The alcohol is ample yet plays well with the sticky body and keeps you sipping.
