COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Available filtered and pasteurised in cans. Previously 3.0%.
Originally brewed by Mackeson of Hythe in Kent in 1910. This was the first beer to use milk sugar to produce a Milk Stout. The Mackeson brewery was eventually acquired by Whitbread, which in turn was taken over by Interbrew (now AB InBev) who initially produced the beer at their Magor brewery in Wales. Subsequently has been contract brewed by Youngs and latterly by Hydes.

Can. Black. Malty (roasty, coffee, burnt sugar, caramel). Far too sweet. Lingering sweet roasty aftertaste. Awful. Unique, but I didnt like it! (2008)

An inoffensively weaker session stout. Is genuinely reminiscent of milk with its creamy palate and taste. I dont mind it as an alternatively to the great Guinness stouts.

330ml can from Asda.Pours pitch black with minimal off white head. Roast malt and fruity aroma. Similar flavor, a little sweet, no bitterness. Quite thin. Inoffensive, but uninspiring.

330ml can. Pours clear, very dark brown. Latte-colored head. Lots of sweet malt aroma. Surprisingly much body. Surprisingly short finish. Medium sweet. Not outstanding, but inoffensive and could be a lot worse at this price point.

330ml can from Beers of Europe - Always been intrigued by Mackeson, always came across as an old womans drink, so in the interest of science... Thin black with a brown head. Smell is yeasty, taste is quite light and chocolatey. Its nice enough. Very drinkable. Bit watery mind you...
