UPDATED: OCT 11, 2004 AWESOME sweet stout! Pitch black and kind of light tasting considering what I was expecting. Rich chocolate taste that definitely pleases. Perfect as a dessert or as a compliment to a dessert. Recommended!

Re-Rate 08/29/02: Black in color, chocolate head and sheets of lace. Nose is chocolate and toasted grains, coffee hints. Sweet from start to finish, medium top, lightly acidic, dry, a good stout. Ranks #418 on my current 1000 beert master list.

Pours up with a delightfully dark head over a coffee body. The aroma is redolent of coffee and chocolate, equally balanced. The flavor is what a Sweet Stout is supposed to be: thick, with lots of roasted malts, and subtle sweetness peeping through. It sits well in the mouth, having a substantially thick body to match its thick taste. Overall, this is one of the better widely available stouts.

Dark stuff...espresso-chocolate taste is a little much, but not a bad stout by any means. Did not sit too well though, so I cannot rate it too highly.

The only other sweet stout I’ve had is Sam Smith’s Oatmeal. I definitely prefer this one, although the SS brew is more complex. This one didn’t have the sweetness that I had a difficulty getting over. More of a relaxed coffee with hints of chocolate.

Pours black but not as opaque or as dark as some. Surprisingly dark tan head. Smell is chocolate milk and burnt toast. Flavor is more chocolate, apple peel with a burnt bitter finish. Maybe a bit of smoke. Reminds me of a weak imperial stout. Mouthfeel is a bit grainy.

I realy enjoyed this beer. Deliciously chocolaty and sweet, great creamy feel. The rather weak aroma was the only downside of this very good stout. re-rate: had to drop it a couple tenths of a point, the coffee is a bit too pronounced.

Pretty strong stout. Different than Mr. G, but that’s not a bad thing. Nice and sweet. Very coffee. Takes me for a ride.

My favorite stout. Love the color, aroma, taste. Smooth with a heavy chocolate, light creamed coffee flavor. Now I have to duplicate it for homebrewing!
