Gentle wafts of hay and orange come from a perfect golden lager with a frothy, lingering head. Surprisingly complex in the mouth, biscuity malt is rolled over by a bit of tart, rough hop flavour. Lingering bitter aftertaste. Quite nice, and a lot better than I expected from one of New Zealand’s unimaginative big commercial brewers. But through one reason or another (the brewery having to relocate due to the Christchurch earthquake? A desire to challenge the growing craft market on their own terms?). Whatever the reason, this is a very full and flavoursome New Zealand Pilsner style - not as hopped as some, and the malt is bettered by others, but as a middle-of-the-road, hot summer’s afternoon sort of pilsner, this does well.

Clean, fruity for a pils. Pours a golden amber with a decent creamy head. Notes of pineapple, and cream. Not too malty. Nice clean drop. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at the Last Kitchen in Fox Glacier. Malt vinegar dominates the aroma, a little grassy hops coming through in the flavour. Not really sure what differentiates this from your normal macro produced pale lager. Pretty poor.

Pale colour. Mild grassy hoppy aroma, taste follows the nose. Pretty light body and mouthful. Decent enough for what it is

Draft at the Fox in Auckland. Pours clear gold with a white head. Crisp malty base, clean, and faint floral bitterness. Finishes crisp clean and refreshing. Super drinkable.

beer-yum (1836) - Wellington, NEW ZEALAND - JUN 13, 2015
Restrained fruity aroma in a golden pour. Nicely balanced taste with clean bitter finish. Not bad for a mass market beer - and one of the best from this brewery.

Bule (2228) - California, USA - MAR 4, 2015
12oz bottle pours a golden color with a bit of head. Some mild hops, but otherwise tastes like a pale lager style.
