A very smartly copnstructured beer. shows a great mix and balance of light touch malts, pilsner-like hops and a settled bitter edge reminisce of any decent bitter from the UK. Perfectly drinkable. In fact, were it not for a modest burst from the toffee mlats early I might have been convinced I was sipping a pilsner. Gassy, fizzy finish. donfardz64 (538) - Wellington, New Zealand, NEW ZEALAND - APR 21, 2009
On tap at the brewery bar. Pours copper red, off white head. Aroma is quite hopped, fruity and has a soft spice. Full bodied flavour, a good hop bitterness came through with this tap version (bottles can be lacking in hops). Soft spice, biscuty. Quite nice. gam (4142) - brisbane, AUSTRALIA - APR 12, 2009

Draught at Mac’s Brewbar, Auckland. Pours dark amber with a small white head. Aroma of caramel malt, nuts and fruit. The flavour is caramel malt, nuts and fruit. Good bitterness. Sweet malty finish. A standout from the other average house beers. DuffMan (10772) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - MAR 8, 2009
Pours an inviting burnt orange with a moderate foamy white head. Very fragrant hop nose, loads of citrus oil and greenstick character. Hops are in the drivers seat across the palate, aromatic and fruity, balanced by a light cushion of sweet toffee malts. Slightly nutty, not too sweet and not too bitter. Flavourful but quite light. Very nice!

Pours a dark amber with an off-white head.
Quite a hoppy, orange citrus nose.
Flavours are very malty, but with a strong hop bitterness all the way through.
Strong toffee presence. Quite fruity as well (raspberry and apple). Finishes dry with relatively strong hops.
Clean, flavoursome, and very easy drinking. My favourite Mac’s so far. Choos (754) - Taylors Hill, AUSTRALIA - JAN 31, 2009
Aroma: fresh hop caramel and crystal malt. Appearance: red with a smallish just off white head. Flavour: hint of chocolate with a nice balanced hop overtone and plenty or malt. zebracakes (1339) - Washington DC, USA - JAN 5, 2009
On tap 01.05.09. Amber ruby, off white head. Aroma is malty & hoppy. Flavor is the same with caramel. A decent and smooth bitter blend, on the light side. kiwibt (55) - , NEW ZEALAND - OCT 31, 2008
Aroma of citrus with a crystal malt background. Red/Coppery in colour with meduim head retention and carbonation.
Flavour is sweet nz saaz hops with a astringent malt background.
Not a bad beer but hop profile is to sickly sweet and malt astringency doesnt work for me. HugoPotomus (8) - NEW ZEALAND - JUN 26, 2008 does not count
Mcs used to be the best in the country. Now they have optimised the beers (for profit) and closed the original brewery, though they still claim to be "Nelson Based". This beer is still pretty good compared to whats available in most bottle shops, compared to Montieths the Macs brand has lost less flavour and tastes less macro. Not very bitter but well balanced the Saaz and toasty malt work well together to create something that lets you know its beer.
