3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a deep almost black with a smaller bubbly tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, dark fruits and toffee. Flavor of dark fruits, molasses, toffee and hints of dark roast coffee.
8 oz pour into Spiegelau from room-temp bottle into stout glass. Black and mostly opaque. Moderate tan head with fairly quick dissipation. Medium body. Fairly creamy. Nose is chocolate and coffee. Taste is nice. A subtle milk chocolate sweetness, a bit of coffee bitterness, some nice dark chocolate, a tiny bit of booze on the end. Quality imperial stout. slowrunner77 (12051) - Reno, Nevada, USA - SEP 26, 2014
"saved this one for the finale, and it just wasn’t up to the task. my favorite style, with the addition of coffee (my 2nd favorite beverage) should be an automatic winner for me, but this one was lacking in body and flavor. too thin and lifeless for an imperial stout. decent coffee flavor (not great, but decent) after a slightly more robust aroma. not bad, just bad for the style."

Bottle. Pours black with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of sweet dark grain and vanilla with a bit of coffee and roasted malts underlying. Flavor is more coffee forward and is backed by sweet dark grains, sweet chocolate and vanilla. nimbleprop (8384) - SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA - APR 29, 2014
22oz bottle pours a watery but opaque black with some foamy, off white head. Nose has some muted coffee, stale malt, toast... pretty much it. Flavor is lightly sweet, malty, mild coffee, mild bread. ganache (5910) - New Jersey, USA - APR 21, 2014
Bomber. Nose is very sweet with heavy licorice and lighter roast, some coffee and burned notes, light fruit. Pours dark brown out of the neck but sits at pitch in the glass, supports a large rocky light brown head. Watery medium body (rather, they started with a medium body and watered it down with weak coffee until it was something less than medium) a little airy, smooth; medium roast and a little sweet, weak coffee comes through but doesn’t dominate until the soft and silky caresses of mocha and crema survive the finish. Sweet berries and a slight mineral quality. The burned notes are relegated to the background, only occasionally popping out. Oily and a but slimy, but no heat and the taste of alcohol is hidden well behind the lightly acrid coffee (slightly tart). In the end, good, but not among the first 20-30 impies I’d suggest to a n00b.

Healthy head, dark brown-black. Smooth texture. Has a coffee/root beer hybrid flavor. Burnt aroma. The coffee really brings up the rear nicely. fiulijn (20516) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 9, 2014

Black color with medium sized head. Aroma of cold coffee. Dry mouthfeel, less strong than expected; flavor of stale pot coffee with some bold resiny hops.
Coffee beer? Maybe not a great idea.

Bottle. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has a roasted malty chocolate and coffee aroma. Roasted malty chocolate and caramel flavor. Has a roasted malty chocolate finish with hints of coffee. harrymel (1551) - Spokane, Washington, USA - DEC 24, 2013
A: Pours a deep brown with good clarity where allowed. Little to no head formation with a solid sheet of latte surface foam which doesn’t stick around. No lacing.
S: Sweet, licorice, esters, light coffee. Very soft coffee. Smells like it fermented a little warm.
T: Hmmm. Pretty much tastes like a poorly crafted imperial stout. Very sweet. Hints of not bitter, but sharpness. Au cont-rare: the beer is okay to drink, but nothing special.
M: Medium body for the style, low carbonation. Leaves mouth without resonance.
O: On par with mactarn and pyramid’s offerings: forgettable.
