12 oz bottle via Hagen. Pours dark brown almost black with a small tan head. Nose is nutty. Taste is chocolate, hazlenuts, toasted grains and a bit of coffee in the end. Body is medium, carbonation is moderate/high. Very sessionable and easy to drink. boFNjackson (4201) - Portland, Oregon, USA - OCT 20, 2009
Bottle... Poured dark brown with a thick, tan head. This had something going for it, but everything was distracted with off tones. The aroma was roasty and malty with this undertone of -- I would go as extreme as saying vomit. Nutty, roasted, sweet flavors but a huge metallic flavor that took it all away in the finish. Overall, smokey with lots of malts, toasted nuts, and mocha, but just that huge, spunky off flavor that really brought this brew down for me. troopie (2323) - Munchen an der Willamette, Oregon, USA - OCT 16, 2009
Bottle. Poured brown with medium lasting tan head. Medium aroma of malt and toast. Medium malty flavour, medium body, a little chocolate, a lottle espresso. A light malt finish with the tiniest bit of hop. Slightly more than common. ultracake (42) - salem, Oregon, USA - OCT 16, 2009
22 oz bottle 2.29 from university market, I was a little disappointed good roasted taste a good porter but not near as complex as i wanted. I guess good for the price.

Promisingly advertised as a "rich holiday Porter," this really fails to satisfy. From the bottle there’s a nice stout/porter moderately-musty aroma with some suggestion of cherry-chocolate. From there it’s way downhill. Upon pour there is a head which rapidly dissipates. The flavor is a standard respectable Porter-y one but it is overwhelmed by the near-watery mouthfeel and finish. At the end there is pretty much nothing left save for a faint lingering toastiness that lasts a couple seconds perhaps. Not going on the buy-again list for sure. I have not had impressive experiences with this brand name.

12 oz. bottle- Pours deep black with a small head. This holiday porter tastes of roasted chocolate malt with a nice spicy flavor. Very enjoyable. scrizzz (2223) - Bothell, Washington, USA - OCT 11, 2009
Creamy coffee aroma, dark brown. strong coffee character, little sour twang. somewhat flat mocha. Reid (2527) - Salem, Oregon, USA - OCT 1, 2009
six pack from Roths Vista Market,Salem.
Lovelly looking ale darkest, mahogany brown with a gorgeous thick half inch light tan head.
Typical roasty,toasty,burnt porter aroma.
I had susupected that this might just be a re-label of the Regular McTs porter but the first sip tell me this is different, much more toasted, burnt oat kinda feel to it, more dark fruitiness. Bitter dark chocolate dominates some spiciness towards the end also .
Palte is weird..its very well carbonated for a porter but really doesnt distract.
Overall a nice simple winter ale. MacTarnahans aka Portland Brewing seems to be re-awakening after a long sleep since its take over by Pyramid.
Lets hope Pyramid continues to give them more independence.
