Bottle:   Deep brown, almost black, moderate fizzy light beige head, dies quickly, sparce lacing.   Balanced nose of toasted malts and hop bitterness.   A little astingent on the tongue, otherwise roasted malts with a ThaJuggernaut (309) - Washington, USA - NOV 5, 2011
pale hop background.   This is a porter that in no way seems special given that its a Winter/Holiday release.   In fact, this Porter is really "ho-hum".   Not heavy, nor light, this is really middle of the road kind of
stuff.   Smidgen of roasted malt character and even softer hops linger.   I still question why this is a Holiday release when it has no special or Holiday like qualities.   Porters can be found from thousands of breweries as
standard fare throughout the year.   Not sure why MacTarnahans went out on a limb to brew this "Holiday Porter".   I was really hoping for something special.   Boring...
blah not bad was expecting more of a kick.. was a good price at 2.19 for a pint so i picked it up Ratman197 (15456) - Arvada, Colorado, USA - APR 17, 2013
Bomber poured a clear dark reddish brown with a lasting tan head. Aromas of roasted malt, cocoa, light licorice and a hint of fruittiness. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of roated malt a nd cocoa with a smooth dry lingering roasty finish. A fairly simplistic Porter. Zymurgeist2 (2385) - Redwood City, California, USA - JAN 11, 2014
Out of the bottle. Faint cola and roast aroma. Slight bread. Pours clear deep brown with garnet highlights and minimal brown head. Taste is cola and light malt with roast in moderate amount. A little spritzy and under attenuated to give a very sweet taste. Roast more pronounced in the finish. kangaroo (67) - Everett, Washington, USA - NOV 27, 2009
Pours very dark, lots of coffee flavor overwhelms whatever else may be in the beer. Lots and lots of coffee notes.. Did not have a lot of depth of flavor. Some earthy notes hidden in there I think but mostly coffee.
Alphadelic (2249) - Portland, Oregon, USA - DEC 31, 2009
Guiness-like malts on the nose. Very strong and rich of flavour but actually light on the palate. The marmite darkness and milky coffee flavours disappear quickly. Earthy yeast is apparent along with some light woody characters. There is some fruity sweetness hidden below the darkness which occasionally bursts forth in a shaft of buzzing cherry and sweet strawberry. While drinkable it is overall quite boring and a little claggy in the mouth. Gription79 (2892) - Bountiful, Utah, USA - NOV 10, 2011
12 oz bottle MrRoss (646) - Delta, British Columbia, CANADA - NOV 13, 2009
Aroma: fruity hops, hint of roasted/chocolate malt
Taste: fruity hops/yeast, slight chocolate
I did not find anything wrong with this beer, but there was not any reason to go back for more.
From Pt Roberts, WA, Marketplace. Looked good, with a slim tan head above a thick and black body. Head was short-lived, and aroma was scant. Taste was adequate, with maybe some coffee notes. Mouthfeel was too thin by far for a so-called "winter warmer". A mediocre beer.
