Tap at brewery. Dry earthy oak, light bourbon, slightly smoky, molasses, and alcohol aroma. Black with a moderate tan head. Woody/oaky, roasty coffee malt, light bourbon, sweet chocolate and vanilla flavor. Full viscous body, low carbonation. Overall, a dry woody/earthy quality, and not extremely sweet. Although the alcohol was quite prevalent in the aroma, it was very well hidden in the flavor (brewery told me it was 9%). ESBob (379) - Indiana, USA - APR 29, 2012
On Tap at Brewpub. Pours a dark brown to black. NIce Brownish head, dissipated likely due to alcohol content. Aroma is chocolate malt and cherries. Taste is sweet roast toffee, slight bourbon notes. Very nice mouthy feel. Bravo Mad Anthony Bravo! hollardustin (327) - Indiana, USA - JAN 10, 2012
2010 vintage 12oz bottle at Mad Anthony in Warsaw, In. Pours opaque black with a thin tan head. Aroma is oak, bourbon, chocolate, and roasted malt. The taste is heavy on the bourbon with notes of milk chocolate, oak, and vanilla. Nice full body and creamy mouthfeel. A more than solid offering from Mad Anthony. bdigital (658) - Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA - SEP 15, 2010
Draft @ the brewpub...pours dark black with a minimal tan head. Nose is chocolate malt, vanilla, bourbon, oak.....................and that’s pretty much it. Not bad, just very one-dimensional...palate seemed thinned out by the barrel-aging but still substantial enough. The bourbon pretty much kills whatever was lurking beneath...a bit of roasted malts and chocolate are present but this one weighs heavily in the barrel-end of the spectrum. Not a bad brew by any means, but the BB porter seemed to hold its own against the barrel much better than this. patrick767 (4063) - fort wayne, Indiana, USA - SEP 13, 2010
draft at the main brewpub - Pours black and smells of roasted malt, chocolate, and bourbon. There’s a big chocolate malt flavor with ample bourbon and a heavy dose of bittering hops. This brew is intense, full bodied, and carries some alcohol heat with it. Well done. Maybe I can try it again when it’s not right after their fall festival so my palate will be in better shape.
