Opaque black beer. Dark malt nose soft palate. Fresh tasting dark malt, lactose sweet and slightly minerally. Undertone of dark malt and subtle unsweet dark chocolate. Well integrated but clear fruity note that is somehow Christmassy! Orange and cranberry with a touch of spice. Finishes semi dry with more milky malt sweetness. Different!
Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured clear black color with an average frothy brown head that was mostly lasting with fair lacing. Moderate toasted malt and sweet chocolate aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy sweet chocolate flavor with medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate duration. Solid beer.

Sample at Neil’s HSC initation. This beer is brownish-black with a medium beige head that recedes slowly. Partchy lacing on the glass. Roasty aroma of malt and coffee with a bit of smoke. Medium body with flavors of roasted malt, black coffee and spiced hops. Notes of dark chocolate as well. The finish is roasty and sweet with a chocolate malt aftertaste. Pretty good overall. argo0 (14127) - Washington DC, USA - MAR 7, 2010

(22oz bottle) Pours an opaque black body with a small beige head. Aroma of candy, plastic, cinnamon, clove, cocoa, anise, ginger, and roasted malt. Flavor of chocolate whey powder, roasted malt, cinnamon, caramel, and more spices. A bit odd.

Enjoyed on tap at the brewpub. Dark colour, some lace, fresh, not much aroma. The taste is stouty and chocolate mostly. A bit tart, average mouthfeel. However representative of the style and a base hit winner. hopscotch (11409) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - APR 19, 2009
Bottle… Coal black ale with a small, creamy, beige head. The aroma offers a lot – examples include licorice root, graham, cocoa nibs and sassafras. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Roasty and sweet – chocolate, espresso, brown sugar and graham. Finishes mocha-sweet and spicy. Thanks to mgumby10 for popping the top on this one! alexsdad06 (11222) - West Chester, Ohio, USA - OCT 9, 2010
22 oz. bottle via trade. Pours black with a small beige head. The aroma, which was not very strong, had roasted malts, chocolate, and some ripe dark fruits with a splash of molasses. The flavor had much more chocolate than even the nose indicated. Additional notes of roasted malt, coffee, and dark fruits. Medium bodied, interesting OH brewed beer. daknole (11048) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - JUN 29, 2009
Dark brown/black pour. Aroma of molasses, aspalt, chocolate and roast. Flavor is very nice. Chocolate, roast, coffee and molasses. Good stuff!
