CPLYFO 09. Pours a hazy deep amber with a nice lasting thin head. Aroma is sweet caramel, toffee, molasses, big crystal malts, and fruity esters with a leathery earthy hop character. Earthiness comes through a bit more in the flavor- herbs as well- heather tips and grass- still good big sweetness, toffee, fruity esters- figs raisin and orange marmalade. Finish is ok, with a bit of alcohol burn. Dogbrick (13010) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - MAR 17, 2009
Sample at the Hopsnobbery Collective Barley Wine tasting on 03/14/2009: Thanks to JaBier for sharing a hand foil-wrapped bottle. The beer is slightly hazed reddish amber in color with a thin off-white head that dissipates quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass, Aroma of burnt malt, caramel and hops. Medium body with a strong malt character with notes of sweet caramel and hops. The finish is toasty with a caramel malt aftertaste and a slight alcohol presence. Pretty good overall. iowaherkeye (2703) - Ocean Beach, San Diego, California, USA - MAR 16, 2009
22oz bomber, brewed 2008 from goryshkewych--thanks George. Loads of sweet and scorched caramel in the aroma, as well as some raisins, sugar cookie, and light pine hops. Flavor is still pretty sweet, but not as ungodly sweet as I thought it was going to be. Really no other surprises in the flavor other than a little sweet grain--the hops are fairly subdued, though a bit of grassiness is noted. Also, the flavor isn’t as scorched, either. Some alcohol is noted in the finish, and bitterness was only around a 2-3. Light carbonation with a big full body. I liked this quite a bit more than their quad, but still, one glass is probably enough. Also, my label states 11% ABV. daknole (11049) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - MAR 16, 2009

Bomber thanks to Nathan! Poured a rich shade of amber with a well-formed cap of beige head. The aroma picked up caramel, toffee, and darker fruity notes with earthy and lesser floral notes surrounding.. there was a hint of sourness on the back. The flavor had toffee and caramel again at the core with intermittent anise and molasses notes.. bitterness was mild and earthy.. again there was some sourness, but it worked OK. Heavier-bodied with low carbonation on the palate.. flowed OK.. spicy at the end with a tasty finish. kp (10882) - Woodstock, Georgia, USA - JAN 18, 2009

Bottle in trade from miketd. Thanks man!
Pours a nice ruby semi clear color with a light beige head. Smell is almost a bit cola like with some sweet malt and subtle hops. Taste is fairly balanced and dry with some fruity flavors and caramel. A touch of booze, but not 12.5% worth, really. Medium body and carbonation. Decent barley wine overall.
