Bottle shared by beerandblues2 poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of dark fruit, toffee, brown sugar and spice. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of toffee, brown sugar, dark fruit and light spice with a smooth warming semisweet finish.

Bottle from Brew Keeper. Poured clear reddish copper color with a moderate frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate fruity and small malty aroma. Medium to full body with a sticky texture. Moderate to heavy fruity bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a standout beer.

22 ounce bottle courtesy of dankman. Thanks! 2008 Vintage. Pours a clear red-orange color with a moderate sized tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of toffee, nougat, chocolate, cocoa, faint cherries and leafy hops. Taste is caramel, toffee, cherries, bitter hops, cocoa powder and faint booze. Medium bodied. Just a bit underwhelming.

Bottle received via trade with fiver29. Pours brown with an average, fizzy, light brown head, somewhat lasting with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, caramel, toffee), average hops (perfume), average yeast (dough, earth) with notes of dates, apple, and brown sugar. Full bodied, sticky texture, lively carbonation, and a bitter finish. Average duration, moderate sweetness, light acidity and bitterness.

Sample at the Hopsnobbery Collective Barley Wine tasting on 03/14/2009: Thanks to JaBier for sharing a hand foil-wrapped bottle. The beer is slightly hazed reddish amber in color with a thin off-white head that dissipates quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass, Aroma of burnt malt, caramel and hops. Medium body with a strong malt character with notes of sweet caramel and hops. The finish is toasty with a caramel malt aftertaste and a slight alcohol presence. Pretty good overall.

22oz bottle acquired in trade with goryshkewych (thanks!). 2008 vintage. Poured a deep amberish color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of earthiness, nutty, caramel, some citrus, and woody. Tastes of toffee, caramel, brown sugar, dark fruits, nutty, earthy, and citrus. Medium alcohol in the finish (but not 11% as my bottle is labled).

Sammy (12212) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 27, 2008
Bottle obtained from the brewpub. The best is the look: A big white bubbly head on a brown body. A lot of lace. Mouthfeel is a little light. Not significantly complex. Basically malty and drinkable. Some sugar. But not too sweet overall. Fairly boozy. Not much in aroma.

hopscotch (11113) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - JAN 6, 2010
Bottle… Dark mahogany ale with a small, fizzy, khaki head. The nose offers a heaping helping of dates layered atop molasses and other dark fruits and malts. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and subdued carbonation. Perfectly balanced molasses and date essences. Minerally, malty, earthy finish. Thanks to darkguardian for popping the top on this one!
