This malt-balanced beer starts on a caramel note in deep copper hues. The malt is balanced with subtle hopping. The name comes from 19th Century Scotland categorization with 80 shilling being a premium priced beer with greater malt.

Tap. Pours clear brown with a medium, creamy tan head, lasting with good lacing. Aroma is medium caramel and bread malt, lightly toasted with no hops; faint fruit esters, peat notes, and dark fruit (plum). Flavor is malt focused, no bitterness, lightly fruity (currants, plum), and caramel. Medium bodied, dry texture, medium carbonation.

Served on draft at the brewpub. Pours a hazy brown color with a medium head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of toffee, berries and earthy notes. The taste is toffee, berries, earthy notes, apple. Medium bodied.

Draft. Pours mostly clear brown with nice beige head; good retention and lacing. Aroma is roasted and caramel malt, toffee, and faint dark fruit. Flavor is all malt, roasted and caramel with notes of oak and plums. Medium body, carbonation, and warmth.

4oz draft and 4oz cask at the brewpub. Preferred the cask. Dark brown with small offwhite head. Caramel malt, toffee, earth, wood. Pretty subdued, and just ok.

Tap at pub. Pour dark ruby and clear. Aroma is apple and bread. Taste of more crisp apple and little hop in the finish.
