Our 2011 Great American Beer Festival® Gold Medal award winning Kellerbier style Kӧlsch. Same recipe as our standard Kӧlsch, just an unfiltered version served cellar style like a German Brewer might enjoy directly from the lager tank. The experience might not be as crisp as the filtered version due to the presence of yeast and other proteins that are typically filtered out. Try them both and see for yourself!

Tap into a pilsner glass showing well filtered neon yellow with a finger of clean white foam. The nose shows clean bready malts. The palate is light bodied and well carbonated. Clean bready malts throughout with a light bitterness on the finish.

On tap at the brewpub. Fresh grainy aromas, some tart fruit candy, floral. Clear copper with a lasting white head, very effervescent. Dry, subtly fruity, grainy, grassy. Light bodied.

Tap. Pours clear pale golden, small white head, good lacing. Aroma is grass, some citrus, Bathroom. Flavor is light sweet, light plus bitter, a bit of citrus and, icky pledge. Light body.

Aroma of malt and grain, pours a clear pale gold color with a white foamy head. A bitter malt and grain taste with a bitter mineral finish.

Draught @ Mad Fox Brewing Company - Glover Park Taproom, Washington, DC. Pours hazy straw with small white head. Clear aroma of malt and hops, with touches of citrus. Bitter, hoppy flavour with sweetish notes of yeast and malt and citrusy hints. Estery and bitter aftertaste. Soft carbonation. Drinkable but nothing really special.

Awesome, easy drinking kolsch with a very highlighted barley profile. Pours hazy golden with good head and lacing. Touch of citrus and a sharp, crisp finish. Tap at brewpub.

Pours a hazy light yellow color with a soapy white head. Notes of bread, soda, honey, and lemons.

Golden coloured body with a thin off-white head. Aroma of metal, light malt, alcohol and a hint of herbs and lemons. Light-bodied; Sharp metallic flavour up front with a very faint malt flavour and not much else - perhaps some light citrus. Aftertaste is bland, mild, uninspired and very simple - just some light malt and crisp metal, that’s it. Overall, a pretty poor offering that definitely isn’t recommended, but the only saving grace was that I could try this at Nats Park and avoid being disappointed when there is much better beer available. I sampled this twenty ounce pint on draught at Nats Park for the Yankees versus the Nationals on 20-May-2015 for US$10,00.

Nickls (2635) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - MAY 23, 2015
Tap, Nationals Stadium. Hazy light lemon gold. Bready, slight malt sweetness and decent aroma. Flavor follows suit pretty closely but is missing some hoppy punch to carry some of the bread notes. Lighter soft body.
