COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our interpretation of Belgian inspired dark Saison brewed with over 8 different imported German and English malts and then gently hopped with German Perle hops. The beer was fermented with a French farmhouse style yeast strain to lend dark fruit notes with hints of cherries and currants that then finishes with a dark chocolate flavor.

Draft. Poured black with thin white head. Aroma was particularly memorable but the taste exceeded it, fortunately. A little less complex than Mad Jacket due less layers of flavor but at the same time really put the yeast at the forefront to showcase it which worked well.

Draft at MF-FC on 7/22/15. Dark hazy brown with small offwhite head. Dark fruit, yeast, toffee, spice, vinous notes.. More of a dubbel than a saison, Eh.

Draught, 7.7% @ Mad Fox Brewing Company - Glover Park Taproom, Washington, DC. Pours cloudy coffee brown with small light tan head. Clear aroma of hops, with notes of malt and touches of citrus. Sweetish, malty and fruity flavour with notes of hops and some citric touches. Malty and slightly acetic afteraste. I donít recall ever having tasted a black Saison before but this one is pretty nice.

Nice stuff. Florals and some raisin in here Ė really more like a dubbel than a black saison or whatever that category is supposed to represent. Light sweet finish. Pours dark brown with good head. Soft carbonation. Tap at brewpub.

Pours a reddish brown color with a beady off white head. Notes of cherries, chocolate, liqueur, and berry syrup.

Appearance: opaque dark brown, short and creamy off-white head. Aroma: yeasty, with some dark fruit notes (plum, raisin?), a bit of roast malts, a little black pepper. Taste: coffee and a bit of dark chocolate, stone fruit (raspberry or cherry), a hint of banana (?), damp granite, some yeast. Notes: finishes like a yeasty porter--roast and spice. Finish: Hard one to nail down. I kind of liked it, kind of didnít. Flavors were interesting but didnít seem all that complementary. Draught at the source.

4 oz draft pour at Mad Fox. Murky brown with light tan head. Aromas of dark fruit, funk. Tastes of funky notes, wine, dark fruit, light spice, moderate bitter notes. Medium body with a dry finish. Decent.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a bit of a tan head and a bit clear at the bottom when held up to a light. Aroma of roasted malt, grass, herbs, yeast and a bit of a caramel note. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong roasted malt flavours in the taste with some lighter spices, yeast and a hint of earth noticeable, all with a good grassy and relatively mild saison flavour profile. Aftertaste shows some good flavours, but a bit lacking in malt, hops and complexity. Overall, a decent beer for a brewpub, but donít expect an amazing drink - worth it if you like the style and itís available, but otherwise, there are better options. I sampled this on draught from a growler, purchased at the brewpub in Falls Church, Virginia sampled later in the day on 21-December-2011 at a hockey party.

On draft at the brewery. Pours black with Dan off white head. Sweet malt aroma. Hints of raisins and some bitterness.

Tap at the brewpub. Hazy deep brune pour with wispy tan lace. Nose is estery, toast, baked apple, chocolate powder. Taste is minerally, a tad papery, chocolate, toast. Drinkable. Not sweet or too astringent. Certainly drying. Some mild sweet alcohol.
