Roast and sharp grain – bringing a good grain profile seems to be a trademark skill of these guys. Pours dark hazy brown with good mocha head. A big nut flavor. Finishes bitter, with a hint of caramel sweetness. Tap at brewpub. ilovedarkbeer (2748) - Arlington, Virginia, USA - SEP 14, 2015

16 oz cask pour at Mad Fox into a nonic pint glass. Black with two fingers of light tan head. Aromas of roast, sweet cream, vanilla, chocolate. Draught @ Churchkey, Wash., D.C. Pours cloudy very dark brown with small, airy tan head. Dark, grainy and malty aroma with touches of caramel. Mild, subtle bitter flavour of grain and roast. Very subtle caramel touches. Nearly no carbonation. OK but nothing that would sweep me off my feet.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a watery but opaque black with some tan head. Nose has some chocolate, some bread, cracker, stale coffee, molasses. Flavor is nice, lighter than I thought it would be, mild sweetness, dry toasted bread, molasses. Dry finish. Travlr (26075) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - DEC 10, 2012
Cask. Pretty much black, large bubble tan edge head. Aroma of dark milk chocolate and pumpernickel bread. Taste is similar with a bit of coffee. Nice. BVery (11361) - Plymouth, Minnesota, USA - NOV 29, 2012
Tap at the brewpub. Dark brown pour with a clingy off white head. Roasty and soy elements, not as smooth as I’d like but not bad.
