Hazy dark ruby-amber; large, fairly creamy, durable tan head that leaves ample sticky lacing.
Aroma: Complex and fruity. More malts than expected to go with the hops. Moderate-high bitterness.
Flavor: A strong but very good sipper. Lingering bitter/sweet aftertaste with some roasted grains. Complex. Floral/fruity/herbal hops.
O: another fine Calif. DIPA.

Bottle. Pours a dark amber with a strong malty aroma. Flavor is mostly roasted malt, with a little bread and chocolate. Bitter hop finish. Very smooth and refreshing for a strong ale. Very much enjoyed this.

Bottle. Heavy cookie, cereal and roasted for the malt, moderate pine and cooked orange for the hops, light dough for the yeast, with date, dried cherry, brown sugar, cinnamon and whiskey. Head is small, frothy, off-white with good lacing and is mostly diminshing. Color is muddy medium red/brown. Flavor starts lightly sweet and lightly to moderately acidic, then finishes lightly sweet, acidic and bitter. Bottle from Total Wine in Jensen Beach/Stuart. Pours an amber brown with a beige head, some floaties. Aroma has sweet caramel, grapefruit, stone fruits and some chocolate. Taste is malty sweet, with caramel and some brown sugar, but also quite bitter from grapefruit and lemon zest. Some pine and a lot of sticky resin. Some alcohol. Medium bodied. Finishes bitter, from what must have been copious dry hopping as it has that tangy super-bitter late finish. Very extreme, but without a good blend. Pours a thin head on a cloudy dark straw colored body.
The aroma is a deep malt smell. Wonderful.
The taste has a bold lemon bitterness trying to break out of the big malt bill. Great balance.
The texture is heavier with moderate carbonation.
An awesome bold red ale.

UPDATED: MAY 13, 2014 Bottle at home served in a half-pint glass. A clear ruby amber Brown pour with a thin head. The nose is floral hops & big malt notes. Medium to thin bodied. A very malty, bitter & strong ale... Tons of generic citrus & biscuity malts. Served in a champagne flute I get earthy, boozy, whiskey-ish & tobacco notes. Surprisingly different.
