Not overly big or complex. Good malt forward mouthfeel with good conditioning. Mild ripe fruits and some herbal notes. Sweet berries and apricots with some liquorice and oaky vanilla. under hopped nose with very mild bitterness. Clean finish no defects. Crosling (1864) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - MAR 5, 2005
Enchanting deep red color. Spotted, yet well laced film coating the surface. Aromatics of maple and honey covered dark fruits, along with a touch of caramel and toffee. The flavor, like the aroma, is much more malt accented with maple, caramel, fruit and toffee characteristics. Well balanced, not amazing, but balanced and pleasing to drink. willblake (2664) - Bel Air, Maryland, USA - FEB 26, 2005
02.20.05 Tap at Toronado BWF Very solid beer. Mucho balance, oakey, pleasing. It’s an everyday barleywine that seems to focus on craft rather than pop. Fresh herbal, licorice. ante (3373) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - FEB 20, 2005
(Vintage 1997, 8 % abv) Reddish brown, few head. Sweet and vinous aroma black cherries, madeira with wierd undertones of saffron and oregano. Hints of Satay sauce! Pours a cloudy copper brown with a thin off-white head. Toasty sweet bready malty aroma with a hoppy presence and a touch of squash. Semi-sweet syrupy body with a pleasant dry hoppiness through. A decent barleywine, but could use some more complexity. Thanks to TheBeerCellar2 for sharing.

UPDATED: DEC 12, 2005 Poured a mostly clear copper color. Aroma was malty, sweet, fruity and mildly alcoholic. Flavors of sweet malt, hop bitterness, alcohol, and lightly fruity. Medium bodied.RateandPillage (426) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - JAN 26, 2005
2001 Vintage: Poured a hazy amber color. Aroma of pineapple and sweet malt. Flavor was sweet and fruity. A little syrupy with a bitter finish.
Murky and light brown in the pour. Malty alcohol aroma. Unfortunately, kind of a hint of "sweaty" aroma as well. Sweetness, spiciness and fig flavor. Fairly hoppy. Good balance, but somewhat mediciny in the flavor. Maybe with the off aroma and flavor, I got a bad bottle. thefatmanrocks (22) - California, USA - JAN 17, 2005
2004 bottle - Malty! Long lasting head - off white. Cloudy brown (looked like liquid milk chocolate) Dry malty flavor. Needs time to sweeten A bit wooden or smokey flavor (couldn’t tell which) Finished with light molassas undertones. Slick (1969) - Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA - JAN 11, 2005
Light brown/amber color, small off white head that faded quickly leaving little behind.Malty hoppy aroma with a light grapefruit side, and a slight Juicy Fruit gum smell as well.Hmmm.Malty flavor comes through at first then it switches quickly to a medium strngth hop taste that lastes for some time. This brew may be a little young because all i seem to get is a grapefruit and hops flavor throughout the tasting. Not bad but may need a little more bottle time to sweeten up. brewshthereen (316) - Oregon, USA - JAN 2, 2005
Poured a cloudy amber/orange with not much of a head. Sweet candy, fruity aroma. Flavor is about the same, but with some toffee, and bread also. Mouthfeel is creamy and a bit cloying. Overall, for an organic barleywine this offering made me pretty happy.
