Number 9 is an interesting beer, in the fact that it is an American pale ale, brewed with apricot essence. I’ve had my share of apricot/fruit beers in my day, and Number 9 is one of the best of them. The secret to a good fruit beer, is to keep the fruit character of the beer in check and not make the beer too "fruity". You want to smell and taste the fruit, but you also want to know you are still drinking a beer. Number 9 pulls this off very well, as there is no question you are drinking a beer, and a very good one at that.
Magic Hat Number 9 pours to a deep golden to pale amber color with a thick and creamy white head, and a good bit of carbonation. The nose on this beer is very inviting with nice fragrant aromas of apricot and light aromas of pale and biscuity malt. The palate is crisp and flavorful with good pale and biscuit malt flavors paired with a nice back drop of apricot flavor. Number 9 then finishes with more good malt flavor, and ends with a pleasing dry apricot essence and some balancing hop bitterness that lingers on the tongue.
A really well done fruit beer with a nice balance of apricot and malt aromas and flavors. Hops are in this beer but just to balance the sweetness, making this beer actually very balanced. This is a very drinkable and enjoyable beer that makes for a perfect aperitif, or a great beer to sip and savor. It is very food friendly and would work well with a number of dishes from pork, to a fruity desert. NYHarvey (2153) - New York, New York, USA - JAN 28, 2006
Aroma is a kind of cereal and fruit mash. Apricots stand out. Amber/tea colored with a thumb thick white head and moderate lacing. Watery fore followed bya grainy apricot tinged middle and finish. Flavor is fairly low intensity and watery and not something I really care for. Quevillon (3061) - Boisbriand, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 26, 2006
Bottle. Was hoping a bit high, but the aroma did bring spring to the head pushing away the winter blues. The pour is light head, with golden copertones. Apricot is hinted, but not as well as the dogfish aprilhop. Had i not tried the dogfish first this may have gotten higher marks. Gmoney (442) - Manchester, New Hampshire, USA - JAN 16, 2006

"Poured an orange, amber color Almost no head with little lacing. kinda coats the mouth. Strong apricot flavor nice malts. Smooth with little carbonation. Overall not bad " xproudfoot (750) - Paleolithic, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 2, 2006
Bottle. Aroma: Skunk apricot. Not real skunk, the beer wasn’t spoled, but it had stale, can, grain odor mixed in with fruit. decent head tastes like a basic beer with some fruit extract mixed in, lager-y, sweet, semi-pleasant. May have poured some of this or hurried through it. not exciting. magic hat = mediocre brews a notch above macros MacDaddyOJake (274) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - DEC 29, 2005
UPDATED: JUN 14, 2006 A very nice golden color with an orangish tint. Small white head that faded very rapidly, but the aroma it gave off was very nice. Fruity and mysterious, citrus hints. Palate was very nice, lots of carbonation. Nice taste, but it disapeared all to quickly. It made it seem like something was lacking at the end, but an very enjoyable beer non-the-less. I will be getting this again. jrob21 (3661) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - DEC 28, 2005
Bottle at mom’s over christmas. Golden with red tint, light carbonation. Sweet red fruit aroma. Sweet and fruity tastes. tickles your tongue. Fruits are cherries and strawberries. RazingDreamz (123) - North Carolina, USA - DEC 24, 2005
Lovely golden color, not much head. Strong flowery aroma. Taste of citrus with hints of something floral and something fruity. Quite enjoyable.
